School: Heron Park Primary

Date: 11th November

Subject being taught: All About My Family

Feedback - This should arise from a range of evidence including observation of the lesson and scrutiny of the student
teachers portfolio / documentation: reference should be made to relevant Standards.
You are maintaining a good record file and are proving to be well organised and diligent in your record keeping and
planning. Keep this up.
You have demonstrated a willingness to be involved in many aspects of school and in the classroom it has been noted that
you have been enthusiastic about your work and your development of the role-play area.

Lesson Observation
Your quiet and engaging manner during register time set the tone for your relationships and behaviour management in this
lesson. The children were very keen to engage and call out but they are learning to respond appropriately to your voice
and instructions. They moved without fuss to a circle on the carpet and you maintained your level of voice and kept the
calm and focussed atmosphere. The children were immediately engaged and interested when you asked them to guess
what your present might be and they followed your instructions when you asked them to discuss. Dont be afraid to go off
track and follow childrens line of enquiry.
Good use of the lolly sticks and appropriate adult support made sure that all children were attentive. It was good to remind
children of previous learning so that they themselves came up with the word pattern. The links between current and
previous learning and anticipated activities were a constant throughout this lesson.
It was clear as you distributed children to their various activities that your relationships with these children is very well
established and that it is based on mutual respect and expectation. This is very good practice and is supportive and
encouraging to Reception children.
When you were working with a small group it was interesting to note that your engagement and communication levels were
very similar to those you used with the whole class. I would be interested to know whether you took any opportunities to
assess children during this time.
