Clean Air Everywhere

Topic
The topic that we have selected for this project is air
pollution. We chose this topic because we are aware of
the ongoing problem of global warming caused by the
human race. One of the main reasons in which global
warming has become such a threat is because of air
pollution. We know there are various ways in which we
can cut down the amount of air pollution. Therefore,
we have decided on a specific question in which is...

Specific Question
How can we decrease air pollution caused by the
burning of fossil fuels?

Quick Facts
Air pollution is a mixture of solid particles and gases in
the air. Car emissions, chemicals from factories, dust,
pollen and mold spores may be suspended as particles.
Ozone, a gas, is a major part of air pollution in cities.
When ozone forms air pollution, it's also called smog.
Our very own city, NYC, is being effected by this
problem. In fact air pollution causes 6% of annual deaths.

Current Solutions
Tiny steps have been taken in
order to reduce the amount of
fossil fuels in the United States.
In fact in the year 1970 the Clean
Air Act Amendments gave the
EPA the authority to establish
strict standards in which needed
to be followed. Auto
manufacturers were mandated to
install exhaust controls or
develop less polluting engines.

The U.S, Japan, and
parts of Europe have set
out to develop
alternative energy
sources as well as
different kinds of
transportation engines
such as one that runs on
electricity.

Data For Problem

As you can see on the graph

to the left transportation was
the main cause of air
pollution from the year 1970
to present time. Electric
Utilities, Residential and
Commercial, and Industrial
companies in the United
States, all contributed to air
pollution. However, they
didnt produce as much as
transportation in which by
2020 is expected to be
contributing to 72% of air
pollution.

Data For Problem

(Continued)

Based on the graph to the left the

use of fossil fuels contribute to
57% of air pollution. That is more
than deforestation, methane and fgases put together. The reason in
which fossil fuels is such a huge
contribution to air pollution is
because we use fossil fuels daily.
In our cars and buses we are
producing carbon dioxide leading
to the 57% contribution.

Innovative Solution
Our solution is built of a current solution
in which is a windmill. However, our
version has a built in battery which will
be used when there is a lack of wind. Our
windmill is made of steel and is
estimated to cost $499.99 in the U.S. It is
going to be smaller than other windmill.
Using our windmill will reduce the need
for alternative energy sources. At the end
of the day after a long drive home from
work you can actually us your windmill
to charge your car.
