Synopsis of Study
Within this unit, I want to look into the topic of endangered animals.
Between animals and humans I feel there is a lack of communication.
Animals and humans are very alike in terms of, senses, actions, emotions,
thought processes and social aspects. Communication can happen within
these groups, however, humans and animals communicating to one
another proves move difficult. I believe this is down to animals not being
able to have speech which means they dont get their say. Humans can be
very selfish towards animals and use this to their advantage. Endangering
species has increased over the years through hunting, uses for fashion,
entertainment and by affecting their habitats. This is down to how
domesticated and lazy people have become.
Within this unit I want to produce an informative animation which will
provide facts to make people aware of the species that are endangered
and how this is due to the negative actions of humans. I want to give an
awareness of the conditions animals have to live through as a result of
hunting and capturing for fashion and entertainment needs. This will be
compared to how they should be living and what is natural and healthy for
them. Within this, I also want to make people realise the actions which can
cause these animals to be unhappy, such as, hunting, destruction to our
environment and supporting organisations, such as, zoos for pure
entertainment. Providing information about how a difference can be made
through adopting an animal, helping to look after the environment and
supporting organisations to help animals is important. I think it would be
good to get this message across because by converging peoples thoughts
and actions to help animals, it will really make a difference.
From the narrative unit I learnt how a narrative theory can affect and
assemble a storyboard for final outcomes. This offers a structure,
guidance and a successful way for an audience to read the final images.
So I will be carrying on this technique into this unit. Also, with the editorial
unit, I found that within my imagery I liked to contain a sense of lightheartedness and humour. This seemed to work successfully and keep my
interested in the work I was responding too which reflected in my imagery
positively. Therefore, I will want to try and include this alongside an
informative theme.
To gain the right information and facts I will do research through
documentaries, reading books, magazines and case studies. I also want to
document findings through my own photography and drawings as well. I
have found from previous units that my strongest technique is through
hand drawing rather than entirely digital. Therefore, I want to carry on
working in this way. However, within this unit I do want to learn and
improve my digital skills. So I think it would be interesting to experiment
and find a way to combine both digital and hand drawn techniques to
produce my animation. I will experiment with different techniques and

processes to further my knowledge and to find which one works best for
this topic and my way of working.
I think its crucial that everyone of all ages understands this topic,
therefore I would like my animation to be appropriate and appeal to an
audience of all ages. I think that as it would be an informative, educational
animation, it can be seen that an appropriate setting is vital, for example,
a museum. This location would suit the purpose of the animation and offer
the right audience.

Aims:
A1: To provide me and awareness of how screen-based technologies are
transforming the way that audiences are consuming information
how illustration can enhance specific concept and effect a target
audience.

A2: To develop my skills and creative solutions in relation to the

technology available to illustrators towards a screen based
presentation.

A3: To develop organisational skills which will enable my independent

learning, critical evaluation and self-management.

Learning Outcomes:
LO1:

Demonstrate my knowledge of new and evolving technologies

for the illustrator in relation to my identified audience.

LO2:Demonstrate my practical application of traditional and technology

skills in the creation of a screen-based presentation.

LO3:Demonstrate my application of organisation skills and evidence of

independent learning, critical evaluation and self-management
through the development of my project.
