5.How does the Training work?

Training Phase 1
Hands-on 1 hour how to scoop hard ice cream in cups
and cones.
Hands-on 1 hour how to make soft serve cups and
cones.
Serving Ice cream (to our specifications and appearance)
can be a skill that some people pick up very quickly (within
15 minutes each hard and soft) and others can take
longer. In our 30 years we have found that eventually
everyone can learn given enough time. However, we
have found that if an individual cannot pick this up in a
maximum of 2 hours, this is an indication of how long future
training will take. We are very busy and rely on employees
that learn new things quickly.

Therefore, after 2 hours, your skills will be evaluated and

either your training will continue that day or a future day or,
if we feel that you are not picking it up, that will be the
conclusion of your employment with us. As we hire many
young people, we do not view this as a firing or
termination, it was an opportunity for you to give
something new a try. Like many things you try in life not
everything works out the first time. Please do not take it
personally and we encourage you to apply again next
season. You will not continue to Training Phase 2.
Training Phase 2
You will be trained on making all types of ice creams,
flurries, drinks, frappes, sundaes, flurries, and banana splits
for customers and how to put food orders out to customers.
You will also learn our specifications on general restaurant
cleanliness, how to wash dishes according to NH Health
Department specifications, and overall stocking and food
preparation.
Training Phase 3
You will be given a study sheet of Menu Questions.
Understanding our menu and food products thoroughly is
essential to answering customer questions and taking
customer orders at the register correctly.
You will then need to pass a verbal test on Menu Questions,
before moving on to Training Phase 4.
Training Phase 4
You will then be thoroughly trained on how to take customer
orders on our register/computer system. First, you will work
in a Training Mode on a register with a Trainer (acting as a
customer). Second, you will take customer orders with

supervision. And, last you will be taking customer orders

independently.
6.I am a parent of a youth and I have a
concern/question?
We have been hiring and working with youths for 30 years.
Although our door is always open, email is preferred, as we
are working owners/managers. havenrestaurant@yahoo.com
However, we really prefer to work directly with our
employees, independent from parents. This is their
opportunity to grow as an individual in the work place.
