44-45) Objective- Children recognize how many without
counting. Tell me quickly, how many do you see? Place
a certain number of items in different sets (or boxes).
Show children first and then have them identify the
numbers in groups without counting all aloud. PRACTICE
THIS SEVERAL TIMES

J is for Jellyfish- Cut out Letter J shape and have
children paste onto colored construction paper. Have
them glue on a jellyfish body shape (created by teacher)
to glue to the top of the J. Use string to create the
tentacles

Using Long & Short Use Your Noodle (p. 128-129) Use
different types of noodles to sort Long and Short.
(spaghetti, rotini, manicotti, ziti, macaroni, etc)

J is for Jam (or Jelly)- Children glue white paper square
onto brown construction paper (that is cut in a bread
shape by teacher). They will then paint the middle of the
white paper red or purple to make the jam (jelly). Teacher
will write the letter J in the middle when paint has dried
with red sparkle glue.

Ordinal Numbers Tag Bag Line Up (p. 46-47) Children
tell a persons position in line by using ordinal numbers
(1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. instead of 1, 2, 3, etc.)

J is for Jaguar- Children glue a jaguar head (pre-cut by
teacher) to the top of a letter J shape. They will glue two
googly eyes and make a nose, mouth and whiskers on
the head. Then they will use black paint to make dots
down the letter J shape.

children in pairs. Give each child a noodle, allow them to
compare whos is short and whos is long.

J is for Jellybeans (Counting Sheets)- Children are
given a worksheet that has jellybean shapes (1- 6). They
will use jellybeans as counters to put them in the
jellybeans with the corresponding numbers. Before they
can eat the jellybeans, the teacher must check their work.

of objects. Count in ordinal fashion the objects in the line.

Try again with lining up the children. (1st, 2nd, 3rd are the
main ones you want children to grasp right away, continue
with practice on 4th, 5th, 6th, etc.)

Jack o Lanterns for Halloween- Teacher will cut out
several pumpkin shapes. Children can choose any that
they want. Use different materials (buttons, stickers, pipe
cleaners, etc.) to create faces on the pumpkins. They will
also glue a green stem to the top of their pumpkins.
