GRIFFIN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL TOPOGRAPHY AND SOILS REPORT

ASSIGNMENT 2

PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT
AREA

LANDFORM
This repot includes information describing the subject sites topographic and geological profile.
Site attributes: elevation, slope, and aspect will be presented as a precursor to conceptualizing
development scenarios for the Proposed Development Area, located on the Griffin Memorial
Site.
Also, presented are the landform classifications and a discussion of the sites subsurface
conditions, soil morphology, hydrology, and drainage patterns.
This report does not contain the investigative findings of a geotechnical engineer, but rather
utilizes topographic resources and nrcs.usda.gov geological data that serves to provide a general
understanding of the physiographic context of the site and that will be used in directing course
work and conceptual planning activities.

Site Boundaries

The site boundaries are Robinson to the North, Main to the South, N. Carter Avenue to the west
and 12th Street to the east. The Proposed Development Area is the northeast corner of the
property bordered by Robinson to the North, State Drive to the West, 12th Street to the East, and
Griffin Drive to the South.

Site Elevation
The topography is flat with the highest elevations at the northeast corner and lower elevations
south and west. Figure 1.1 shows the portion of the site being considered (northeast 40 acres)
where the lowest elevation is at 1190, approximately 650 ft from the northern boundary and 1200
from the eastern boundary. The highest elevation is at 23 above the lowest point. The
topographical profile is flat and plain.
Slope
The Proposed Development Areas slope ranges from 0.8 to 5.0%. Slopes are gradual from the
northern, western, and eastern boundaries ranging from 0.8 to 2%. The steepest slopes are seen
as we approach site elevations of 1199 to the low point of 1190. The site generally drains from
northeast to west/southwest.
Aspect
The general aspect (slope orientation) is south/southwest.

The Proposed Site is primarily made up of

Loam and Clay. Landforms consist of Plains
on paleoterraces, Hillslopes on hills, and Flood
Plains.

Hydrological Overviw
The Proposed Development Sites general soil
hydrology falls in category D indicative of
clay soils, with high runoff potential when
saturated and moderate drainage.

Soil Profile Overview

1 to 3% Slopes
Silt Loam to 12
Silty Clay to 80
This is a soil composition makeup of Kirland 40%, Urban Land
40%, and Pawhuska 15%. 40% of the composition has a variable
profile to 60 inches. The remaining composition is generally silt
loam to 12 inches and silty clay to 80 inches.
0 to 3% Slopes
Silt Loam to 13
Silty Clay to 80
This is a soil composition makeup of Kirkland and similar soils
70%, Pawhuska and similar soils 15%, and a other Minor oil
Components of 15%. 100% of the composition has a profile that is
silt loam and silty clay.
Pawhuska profile includes erosion where
we see slopes of 2.5-3% from the 1195 elevation to the area low
point of 1190. Typical slopes are at 1.6%.
3-5% Slopes
Silty Loam to 0- 5
Silty Clay to 5- 73
Bedrock to 73- 83
This is a soil composition makeup of Renfrow, eroded and similar
soils 65%, Huska eroded, and similar soil 15% and other Minor
components at 20%. 80% of the composition has a profile that is
silt loam, silty clay, and bedrock. The Minor 20% is also loam and
clay. Physical erosion is noted in all components especially from
elevations 1193 to 1190.
0-1% Slopes
Silt Loam 0-27
Silty Clay Loam to 42
Silt Loam to 72
This soil composition is 95% Port Loam Reddish brown Loam
indicative of Oklahoma. Minor Components make of 5%. It has a
Loamy bottomland, exhibits frequent flooding, but not ponding.
