Why is Instagram best for the ESC?

The demographic that the ESC is trying to reach also
has the highest usage on Instagram. The ESCs main
social media site is Facebook and Instagram is the
highest used secondary site to those on Facebook.
Instagram is the most frequently checked site among
its users (other than Facebook).

How the ESC should use Instagram:

1. Connect Facebook page to Instagram account. Post a
link to Instagram account on Facebook.
2. Linke the Facebook or the AS website in the bio and
give a short description of what the ESC is and where
you can be found.
3. The best time to post is on the hour (5-10 minutes
before). Lunchtime and evening have the highest traffic.
4. Use 1-3 hashtags per post. Too many is annoying to
viewers but having a few will gain more traffic and often
become a trend among viewers.
5. Follow other WWU-affiliated Instagrams
6. Use common hashtags, i.e. #throwbackthursday or
#flashbackfriday
7. Post no more than once daily but at least once a week.
8. Tag other users. If the photo takes place on campus tag
the WWU account. If there are specific students in the
photo, find out their username and tag them. Its a great
way to gain more followers the people tagged will
likely start following and also show their friends.
9. Caption writing: Keep it to one or two sentences, use
correct grammar (this isnt twitter, you get more than
140 characters). If appropriate, ask followers a question
youll get responses and you want engagement.
10.
What types of things are post-worthy?

#throwbackthursday to the same event from
last year. Caption explains the event from last
year in one sentence. Give this years event
date, time, price and where to get tickets.
b. Just hanging out in the ESC?
i. Are there students or staff at the ESC having
fun or doing something interesting in the
office? Take a picture and post it! Caption
should explain what is going on and maybe a
call to action such as come join us in Viking
Union 420!
c. During an Event: The most important thing to
instagram. Take pictures of people enjoying
themselves at events.
