Other
Reflection:
After learning about fair use and copyright laws I was reminded of its importance. Although many humans violate it every
day of their lives, many people are ignorant to it simply because it is easy to forget about, or choose to ignore it. As a teacher, I
am to be the model for my students. If I am slacking in citing my references and making sure I can actually use aspects of videos
and pictures in my classroom, my students will not realize that there are rules to follow. Therefore, I was reminded how very
important it is to teach these concepts and rules to my future students. In addition to simply teaching my students about fair use
and copyright, I also need to make sure that throughout all of my assignments my students are held at a high standard in regards
to citing information anytime they use anything from anywhere else other than their head.
After using Storybird, I had mixed feelings about this website. I liked the easy-to-use feel the website had. However, trying
to find a set of pictures that could be used to talk about fair use and copyright I found very difficult. If I were to use Storybird in
my classroom, I think I would try do it in more creative realms. Instead of having students write a story about the rules of
economics, I would have them write a short story. I think that Storybird can help springboard many students start writing by
looking at pictures and imagining a story. This can be very helpful for some students and very frustrating for others. Therefore, I
would use it in moderation, but would always have it in the back of my head as a resource to suggest to students if they were
lacking direction for a story.
