Initiative and enterprise: being
S- At the end of last year, I decided to

S- In year 10, I studied computer
extension at school. We were introduced
to a new computing program called
Google Sketch. We were given an
assignment to create a model of a
bookshelf using the program.
A- I designed a bookshelf by learning and
getting help from my computer extension
teacher, as well as learning new IT skills
from youtube tutorials.
O- I was able to complete my assignment
on time and not only did I learn new IT
skills, I was able to help other classmates
when they had trouble.
S- In the 2013 Science and Engineering
Challenge at Curtin University, we had to
solve scientific problems in teams.
A- We carried out a wide range of
experiments and tasks. The first group to
finish, won the challenge. Our group
successfully did this by having high
problem-solving skills, creating
innovative methods in carrying out the
experiments and being prepared and
organized for each challenge laid out.
O- As a result, our group won the
challenge and achieved a medal each for
our incredible problem-solving skills in
conducting the experiments.
S- I used self-management skills when I
was picking what subjects to take in Year
11. I had to make sure my exam marks
matched the prerequisites. When they
didnt, I created short-term goals, such as
getting 75% for a topic test, and worked
my hardest to achieve them.
A- I worked very hard and went to
friends and teachers for help if I didnt
understand anything. I made sure before
exams that my own weaknesses were
covered by doing lots of past exam
papers.
O- Asking for help and monitoring my
progress, I managed to get into all the
subjects I wanted to do. It also gave me a
self- esteem boost to set future goals and
work hard to achieve them.
S- When I had to manage my time to

so, it prevented me from procrastination.
O- I was able to complete everything
efficiently and quickly. I felt good after
all the hard work was done.
S- At the beginning of this year, my flute
teacher gave me a piece of music that
was very challenging and required me to
learn new techniques in playing the flute.
I needed to learn it before I was
scheduled to perform it to my classmates
just a few weeks after I received the piece
of music.
A- I was very determined in playing well
and learning new techniques. I practiced
everyday for thirty minutes. By being
inspired from watching other flute
players on youtube, I was able to focus
and gain enthusiasm in learning the new
piece.
O- I played very well and received
positive feedback from my classmates.
Furthermore, this gave me confidence in
learning new techniques on the flute.
