Revise learning guides - I

made this change.

In this folder, you will find this semesters learning
guides. Before I open a learning plan to students on
Blackboard, I review the learning guide and the
learning plan for any errors. This is why I dont have
the learning plans automatically set to open at a
specific date or time. This fall, I intend to set them to
open automatically. The only guides that I consider
ready to release to students are those that are in the
form of PDFs (just an FYI).

I wanted to switch these two boxes around because
the graded assessments often ended up on the 2nd
page of the document and I fear that students may
not see them. Plus, I think the self-assessment
questions should appear at the end because
sometimes students dont fully grasp the course

material until after the completing the learning plan

assessments. Therefore, I believe that students
should check their understanding after the graded
assessment since the graded assessments are a part
of the learning process. I updated all of the learning
guides in this manner.

also revising the layout of the assignment description.
Please let me know if the new organization of the
material presented in the assignment description is
still clear to the reader.

Rough Draft

Construct discussion board

extenders for public
speaking.

Observe discussion board in
learning Plan 2, Wk-3
My biggest focus this week
will be grading and
providing feedback to
students on their speech
rough drafts.

Move speech self-
evaluation and group self-
evaluation assignments
from the blog assignments
to blackboard assignments.

I have left comments about the discussion board in

my blog reflection.

I moved these two assignments. Students didnt

really complain about posting their self-evaluation of
their speeches, but students didnt like evaluating
their own group participation in a blog posting. I
wanted students to post a self-evaluation of their
group work to their blog in order to learn how to
write a politically correct evaluation of their efforts.
This also forced students to not place the blame for
any group conflict on others. I am going to move
these two items to see if students provide a better
analysis of their efforts. My written communication
class has done this self-evaluation as Blackboard
assignment. When comparing these items, I didnt
think that there was much difference in quality.

Break students into smaller

groups for intrapersonal
discussion board.

n%20Board%20Questions.docx?dl=0

I broke the class up into two groups of 14 each. I

created two discussion boards with a list of students
names on each. I spent two hours trying to create
groups using Blackboard where students didnt have
to click 3 times to get to the correct forum. I
reviewed the videos on Lyndia, but didnt find a
solution for this. There is a way to set it up using the
groups function, but this creates a forum within a
forum. Then, students end up posting to the wrong
forum that is not tied to the grade book. I will follow-
up with my Blackboard expert at MSTC to see what I
might be doing wrong or if there is a way around this.
This time, I will exempt the grades in the grade book
for the discussion board students are not assigned to.

Embed quizlets as an
optional learning activity for
the learning plans that have
quizzes as assessments.

Ask & discuss with Dennis
his recommendations for
quality
Ph.d. & Ed.D. programs in
instructional technology or
higher education. I have
looked at several, but would
like some input from

Dennis, I decided against adding quizlets

a few weeks ago. I would prefer students
use the quizzes at the end of the chapter
that allow students to answer application
questions versus memorizing definitions.
I have very few definition questions in
the online quizzes, since they can use
their textbooks.

Instead I will add the following information to the
learning plan under the new heading called Optional
Learning Activities:

If you would like some additional practice before

taking your quiz, turn to the end of the chapter in
your textbook, Think: Communication. Then,
complete the Test Your Knowledge practice quiz.
The format of these questions is very similar to the
actual quiz questions. Compare your answers to the
correct answers listed on page 366.
