Chinas civilization has been able to survive thousands of years because of

their focus on unity. China was able to remain united even though they were
one of the empires that ruled the most land. The one-party system fits
naturally for Chinese political culture as imperial China had just one emperor
to govern. There have been many political discussions on what China has to
implement in order to grow, including having a democracy. Companies alike
need to focus on how they are going to survive in the long run.
The western world views democracy as the best system for governments as
well as companies. However, a premature democracy can be dangerous as it
sacrifices long-term economic progress for short-term political freedom. This
wouldnt bring the most good for the greatest number of people and can
possibly stagger progress. A company that has democratic systems result in
their resources used for personal interests rather than the interest of the
whole company. Can companies run like democracies? Or do companies
operate better with no structure?
A flat structure or democratic system might work for smaller startup
companies, but as the company grows with more projects, employees, and
revenue, a hierarchical structure will be necessary. Having a hierarchical
structure will make the company more mechanistic and those who are near
the top will have more power and influence than those on the bottom. Many
see these autocratic systems negatively, but they allow for companies to
demonstrate adaptability, meritocracy, and legitimacy.
