Instructional Plan
Phase I
Title of Training: Harassment in the Workplace
Description: Harassment in the Workplace is a training geared to educate staff on what
harassment is, the different types of harassment, issues that arise due to harassment, the human
resources policies on harassment, and the proper contact information to report a harassment
claim. Throughout this training staff will be doing team work collaboration, watching videos,
participating in exercises, discussions, and presentations that will aide in making it a studentcentered learning environment. The training is informative but also hands on so that learners are
involved and engaged in their learning. There will be assessments on information learned
through this training to ensure information retention.
Targeted Audience: The targeted audience are faculty and staff that work at Kapolei High
School in Kapolei, Hawaii. The faculty and staff at Kapolei High School consists of
administration, teachers, counselors, coordinators, office staff, security, custodians, cafeteria
workers, educational assistants, aides, librarians, and technical support. Staff are diverse in
ethnicity, age, language, gender, education, attitudes and values. These are the findings when and
analysis on targeted audience was conducted:
Ethnicity- The group is very diverse. Each training class will have a different amount of
ethnicities presented. The ethnicity percentages at Kapolei High School are:
Asian- 38.6%
White- 24.7%
Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islanders- 10%
Hispanic- 8.9%
Black or African American- 1.6%
American Indian and Alaska Native- 0.3%
Multi-ethnic background (two or more races)- 23.6%
Age- Ages of faculty and staff range from 21 70 years of age
Language- There are various languages represented in this training course.

INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN
Gender- The training is mixed with male and female. The course is predominantly
female.
Education- The educational backgrounds are mixed. Educational degrees range from
high school diplomas to Doctorate Degrees.
Attitude/Values- There are traditional and non-traditional views represented in this
training course. The older aged employees are used to traditional methods. The younger
generation of employees seem more open to non-traditional methods. The training is an
annual recertification on Harassment in the Workplace. Although some may not see the
necessity, others believe that it is important to stay abreast on Harassment in the
Workplace training.
Delivery Modality/Length of Training: The Harassment in the Workplace Training will be held
each Saturday of the Month from 8-4pm. The training is an annual training that employees have
to attend. Sign-up sheets for the different dates available will be posted. The training will consist
of lecture, PowerPoint, videos, team work collaboration, discussion groups, exercises,
presentations, and assessment.
The lecture through PowerPoint will consist of the definition of harassment, different
forms of harassment, facts on harassment, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and
other relevant information on harassment.
Videos- YouTube clips of harassment information
Team work collaboration/Presentation- trainees will work together to prepare a
presentation for the rest of the training group on the type of harassment assigned to them.
(sex, race, gender, religion, gender, age, etc.)
Discussion groups/Exercises- different scenarios will be presented to the training class
and class will be divided into groups so that they can further discuss scenarios and
possible ways of handling the scenario given.
Assessment
Formative assessments will be ongoing throughout the training course. Trainees
will be asked questions after delivery of some material, trainer will ask yes or no
questions, open ended questions, and observe trainees while they are in group
discussion to get a sense of whether or not information is being retained.
Performance assessment will take place when trainees present their assigned form
of harassment to the rest of the training class.
Summative assessment will be in the form of a shirt quiz at the end of the training
class. True/False, Multiple Choice, and Matching Questions will be on the quiz.
Exit Slip- an exit slip will be given to each participant in the training course to get
a sense of what they liked or did not like about the training course and
improvements that can be made.
Goals:
Faculty and Staff at Kapolei High School will learn the different forms of harassment that
can take place in the workplace.
Faculty and Staff at Kapolei High School will effectively compile and present
information to peers in training course based on information learned about assigned
harassment type.

Phase II

Defined Goals:

Objective Explanation: The objectives will consists of individual, and collaborative learning.
Participants of the training will sit through lecture based instruction, peer discussions, and
collaboratively working in groups to develop a presentation to present to their peers. This will
allow for a student centered learning environment where the instructor of the training course can
act more as a facilitator. The discussion groups and team collaboration will allow time for
participants to work together, be creative, stand in front of a classroom and present material, as
well as serve as an opportunity to become acquainted with peers that they may not already know.
Instructional Strategies/Activities:

Group Collaboration- This allot time for participants in training to get together into
groups and create a presentation on the type of harassment that they will be assigned to
cover. Serves as research, team work, and creativity.
Presentation- This gives participants in training a chance to become instructors as they
stand in front of the class and share the presentation that their team compiled.
Role Play/Exercises- This will give participants in the training course a chance to
experience different scenarios of harassment in the workplace and be able to think of
ways to properly solve the scenario.

Formative Assessments

Phase IV
Criteria: The criteria for determining whether the goals, objectives, and overall outcomes of the
course or training session will be met is the ongoing formative assessments that will be taking
place throughput instruction. Course facilitator will be observing participants responses and
discussions throughout the course. The oral presentations will give teams a chance to show that
they are an expert on the type of harassment assigned to them to deliver to the rest of the class.
The quiz will serve as an overall assessment as to whether or not information was successfully
delivered and retained. Participants need a passing score of 80% or greater to pass the training
course. The exit slip will serve as feedback for the instructor on what participants liked or did
not like about the training course, and what improvements, if any, should be made.
Evaluation Instruments:
Rubric- A rubric needs to be created to grade participants on how well they did with their
team presentations.
Answer Key- An answer key for the quiz needs to be created in order to grade
participants on their performance on the quiz.
Evaluation Overview: The evaluation overview for this training course on Harassment in the
Workplace will come in the form of observation that the facilitator conducts throughout the
entire training course. Body language, attitude, engagement, interest, and participation will all
be taken into account. The quiz will serve as a way to determine how much information was
retained and learned by the participants. This will also serve as a way to measure how well
instruction was facilitated. The Exit Slip will serve as feedback from the participants in the
training course. Everything will be taken into consideration and improvements will be made as
seen fit to aide in the efficacy and future decisions of this training course.
