Lesson Title: Electrical Measurements within a Circuit

Subject: Science Academic

Grade: 9

Strand: Physics

Location: PACI 2012

Date: October 15, 2014

Time: 70 minutes

Lesson Plan Description (one/two paragraphs with general details about what you will do and how you will do it)

In this lesson, we will learn how an electrical circuit is put together and how we can measure the voltage and current
within the circuit.
CURRICULUM CONNECTIONS
Ontario Curricular Overall Expectations (numbers from documents and details)
E3. demonstrate an understanding of the principles of static and current electricity (p 56)

Ontario Curricular Specific Expectations

(numbers from documents and details) selected & listed from the Ont. Curriculum, refined when
necessary, has verbs that are observable & measureable, has realistic number of expectations (1 to 3) have expectations that match assessment

E3.7 explain what different meters (e.g., ammeters, voltmeters, multimeters) measure and how they are connected within an electrical
circuit to measure electrical quantities (p 57)

Learning Goals Discuss with students: What will I be learning today? (clearly identify what students are expected to know and be able to do, in language
that students can readily understand)

Today I will learn

how an electrical circuit is put together
about equipments used to measure the current and voltage
measure the current and voltage within a circuit
ASSESSMENT and EVALUATION
Success Criteria Discuss with students: How will I know I have learned what I need to learn? (clearly identify the criteria to assess students learning, as well
as what evidence of learning students will provide to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and thinking, in language that students can readily understand)

I can: wire together and identify the components in an electrical circuit

I can: identify the equipments used to measure the current and voltage of an electrical circuit
I can: measure the current and voltage of an electrical circuit
Assessment how will I know students have learned what I intended?
