Song

Song title
Sandstorm
Cha Cha Slide

Artist
Darude
Mr C The Slide Man

Genre
techno
dance / hip house

What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?

To the beat
High key lighting
Spy like outfits
- orange glasses
- brief case (object that they are trying to get)
- guns
Variety of camera angles
Narrative
Outfits in the cha cha slide music video fit the era in America of 2009 basic jeans and top
Variety of locations
Always a leader
In concert/ dance music video interpretative as you follow the instructions
High key lighting

How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?

I am going to meet these conventions by using high key lighting, and the different styles of camera
angles you see in these music videos. I will also use a leader for my cha cha slide part of my music
video.

Style (in-concert and as live footage; animation (stop motion, digital); interpretative; narrative; impressionist;
surrealist; pastiche; parody; referencing; homage)

I will be making my music video a parody but I will still use most of the conventions you see in the
original music videos however with a different style.

Costume
2 Ninja costumes this will be for the first section of the song Darude Sandstorm
The rest of the outfits will be random such as boys in dresses, old people, people in fancy dress or
neon colours and also people in normal outfits. While these outfits will be used for the second part
of the song Cha Cha Slide

Lighting
Throughout my music video I will be using high key lighting as this represents that my music video is
happy as its a parody. I want to use the lighting to help the audience understand what to feel, as
different lightings will affect the mood of the audience. As you normally see high key lighting in
family movies or comedies. You also see it in many music videos that have a positive narrative.

Locations
The locations of my music video will be in a variety of places. The first section of my music video
consists of two ninjas fighting, this will be held around Henley/ maidenhead town centre. When the
song changes the other dancers/actors will run out to the location of where the two ninjas are and
start the cha cha slide. From there, the locations will switch to different people doing them in
different places, I will be using the green screen to help me with some of the locations as this will
help my music video be more of a parody.

Shot types
Long shot, over the shoulder, close up, mid shot, low angle shot, high angle shot, 2 shot, pan

Research
What music videos have you watched to research your genre?

I have researched other parody music videos to see how I can make mine unique and
stand out from the others. I researched popular parody artists such as The Lonely Island
and The Midnight Beast

How have these videos influenced the decisions made? Include screen shots of the key influences

I looked at how the midnight beast and The Lonely Island style their music
videos and how I can make mine unique and different from theirs to make
my parody music video standout

Meaning of the song

Does the song have a meaning? If so, what is it?
I personally dont believe the first song I am using in my music video has a meaning. As the first
song is techno it is just a continuous beat throughout the whole song, while cha cha slide is a
narrative to it, and you have to follow the lyrics.

How will your visuals relate to the song? (Illustrate, Amplify or Disjuncture)
The first part of my music video should relate that it is a parody as its ninjas fighting, but this fighting
will not be realistic and you will see that it is a parody of the original music video as the original is
spies running from each other.
While the second part of my music video is everyone doing the Cha Cha Slide which is visual to the
lyrics but everyone will be in weird outfits instead of normal to represent the parody music video
