I recently took my GRE exam and secured 1490 (Quants -800/800 and

verbal - 690/800). I thought of sharing some information on preparing

for GRE.
I was always scared about verbal section of GRE and Quants section
was very much easy for me (Its the same case for many people from the
Engineering background; Quants doesn't require much of preparation) .
I took few tests before the actual preparation and i used to get 350370 in Verbal and 770-800 in Quants section. Then i followed the
method described in this post to boost my score.
Here are some of the tips to prepare for GRE.
Read up the Kaplan word groups, top GRE words in context (1 day)
Read up the techniques described in Kaplan about Antonyms, Sentence
Completion, Reading Comprehension (RC) and Analogy questions (1 day)
Practice all the verbal exercises given in Kaplan (2 days)
Then each day, review vocabulary from the word groups and then take
tests from kaplan/big book/barrons/ princeton review. Take about 2-3
tests each day. At the end of each test, make sure you review all the
answers and each test that you take should increase your accuracy and
score. If it doesn't happen, go back to techniques, read them and
start applying them (5 days)
Spend a day solving Analogy Bible. Start using the techniques
described in Kaplan to identify the bridges, select correct answer (1
day)
Take a full length test from the powerprep test (provided by ETS).
Two tests are included in the powerprep. The scores that you get in
the powerprep are approximate indicators of the score that you get in
the actual test. (1 day)
Review Quants from Kaplan book, Solve some questions from exercises.
(0.5 day)
Read up some sample responses included in the Kaplan book for Issue
essay and Argument essay and try to follow the same format in the
actual exam (0.5 day)
