Philosophy Statement

It is my belief that leadership is a process by which I continuously transform,

becoming a better version of myself as challenges are faced and overcome,
while helping others to do the same. As an educational leader I seek to help
teachers, students, and colleagues build upon their strengths, and support
areas in which growth is needed. Ultimately, my leadership by example will
inspire others to work towards maximizing their own potential.
At the core, I am a leader that values integrity, commitment, strong work
ethic, and genuine concern for others. These values are essential to
successful teaching, learning, and participation in the society that which we
live. As an educational leader, it is my goal to inculcate these values to
teachers, colleagues, students, parents, and community members with
whom I interact. I am an educational leader that sees great value in
developing human beings capable of showing empathy towards others, and
citizens that upon which can be relied.
As an educational leader I see great value in utilizing democratic process in
decision-making that considers stakeholders. Students, teachers, and
parents have creative ideas and valuable insights that should be considered
as we unite to work towards a shared vision. This not only capitalizes on
many skillsets, but also creates greater buy-in. Strong relationships must be
built, making the connection between the school and home as seamless as
possible. Creating a community of caring will break down the walls that often
hinder the potential for unity. Partnerships with local businesses and
educational institutions are essential to providing resources and educational
opportunities to students. Education is not limited to the classrooms and
hallways of the school.
As an instructional leader I believe that it is essential for all school personnel
to continue their education. This may be done through meaningful
professional development, workshops, research, college courses, and
activities directed through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). I will
model continuous professional learning by my own pursuits, and provide
opportunities, which inspire others to value continuous learning as well. All
educators and students should continually increase their understanding and
ability to use the latest technology. We must be able to meet the demands of
society, and as the interests and skills of students change, so must the
means by which we reach them instructionally. Professional growth must be
guided by the results of a sound teacher evaluation system in which teachers
and administrators have an opportunity to engage in observation, analyses,
and open discussion about professional practice and how best to strengthen
it.
As in many facets of life, communication is key. As an educational leader I
understand that effective communication requires not only verbal
expression, but also the ability to listen. It is important that teachers,
students, and parents feel heard. For this reason I believe in having an open
door policy and making myself available in as many ways as possible, such
as telephone, email, Skype, or face-to-face meetings. Additionally, effective
communication is key to the safety of students and staff in the event of
crisis.

In any school environment the number one concern is the education and
personal development of students. As students develop, so to will teachers,
parents, and the communities in which they reside. Such results are
dependent upon my successful interaction and ability to work with all
stakeholders. It is important that we are united. Whether our students will
one day be going to college, to a trade school, or simply entering the work
force, we must work together to create an educated citizenry that has a
commitment to integrity, strong work ethic, and empathy in support of
others.
