Personal Statement
My name is Breanna Dickson and I am a second-year occupational therapy student at
Touro University Nevada. I completed my undergraduate work at University of Nevada Las
Vegas with an emphasis in education. I greatly enjoyed my previous level II fieldwork through
Clark County School District and I am looking forward to my next fieldwork in inpatient
rehabilitation.
Mission and/or Vision Statement
I will enjoy my work by finding employment where I can use my natural talents such as
decision making, listening, creativity, and adaptability to help someone accomplish a goal they
though was out of reach. My life's journey is to enable others to live their life to the fullest and
improve how we view health and rehabilitation as a country.
Strengths
One of my strengths is being able to relate to people. I intuitively understand others
hopes, desires, sorrows, and joys. I am able to convey the basic elements of elaborate or complex
ideas easily. I have a great desire to learn and continuously improve. I am often introspective and
take great joy in intellectual discussions.
Growth Needs
I work quickly and tend to finish projects well before the deadline. However, I should
take a little more time to focus on the details. I enjoy working on projects independently but I
feel others perspectives could be beneficial to my work.

Leadership Model and/or Style Selected

I chose to select the Situational Leadership Model. This model suggests that there is no
one-size fits all approach to leadership and that leaders should adapt their style based on the
readiness of their followers and the situation. There are four different types of leadership
presented in this model: directing, coaching, supporting, and delegating. In the inpatient
rehabilitation setting, I can think of certain situations that would benefit from each leadership
style. Therefore, I feel it is important to be flexible in my leadership approach.
Goals
My goal is to obtain a full-time position as an occupational therapist in an inpatient
setting with supportive team members. I hope to advance to director of rehabilitation and
develop programs to improve patient outcomes in neurological settings. My capstone goal would
be to serve on the board of directors of the American Occupational Therapy Association
(AOTA).
