Introduction
Research question: (How does changing X affect Y? OR What will happen to Y if I change X?)
What will happen to the temperature of the water if I change the amount of Calcium Chloride?

Independent variable (X): (the one you change) The amount of the Calcium Chloride
Dependent variable (Y): (the one you measure) Change of the temperature
Fixed variables: (the ones you keep the same to make the test fair) Size of beaker the same(The amount of water),
The temperature of water before adding calcium chloride, The time of measurement.

Hypothesis:
It is predicted that the Calcium Chloride will melt and the water in the beaker will turn hot.
I think this because the exothermic reaction will occur in the beaker.

Give instructions about how and when to control variables, take measurements, repeat tests and make calculations.
Instructions should be numbered and begin with an imperative verb like add, stir or measure.

Observations: (what did you see, hear, smell or taste while you were carrying out the experiment? Note down
anything that might have affected or might explain your results.)
The water appeared murky and cloudy while the Calcium Chloride was dissolving.

DISCUSSION
Conclusion: What specific information from your results shows this?)

It was found that the water temperature raised in temperature while the Calcium Chloride was dissolving.

However once the Calcium Chloride had completely dissolved the water temperature returned to normal.

Scientific explanation: (How can you explain your conclusion scientifically? You may have to research to find the
answer to this, either in text books or in the library. Make sure you include scientific language in your writing)
An exothermic reaction occurred once Calcium Chloride was placed in water due to the temperature of the
water increasing.

This agreed with my prediction because the water temperature rose.

Evaluation: (Validity issues - What inaccuracies might have occurred due to the equipment or procedure used during
the experiment? Related improvements - How could the equipment or procedure be changed to make the experiment
more accurate next time?)
