As it is the first week students will be given a chance at the start of the
lesson to warm up using the American football in a ball familiarization
activity.
Students Will then get into pairs and begin to practice throwing the football
to each other. Slowly getting further away after 5 successful passes at that
distance. Introduce competition once reached 10 feet.
Students will line up and aim to throw the footballs to land in the hoops laid
out in a pyramid at different distances.
Students will then have their first taster into a flag football match and put
tag belts on.
Week 2: Target Passing/On the Move
By the end of Week 2, students will know when to throw at an angle and
have receiver meet a ball and students will be able to successfully throw catch
at least 3 out of 5 balls to a partner on the move more than 10 feet away.
Compelling / irresistible
learning: (What environments,
teaching styles, interactive
opportunities, Out of hours learning,
extension / enrichment , themes will
be used to make this unit motivating
and exciting for the learners?)
Students will then be put into pairs and will practice running creative lines
and the other throws the ball into their hands.
Students will then have their second taster into a flag football match and
put tag belts on, focusing on throwing whilst moving.
Week 3: Man Defense
By the end of week 3 Students will know how to guard an opponent going out for
a pass. Students will also know how many feet away they should be guarding
their opponent.
Students will first revisit the netball football idea but straight away with opposition
and will gain points for as many successful passes made. This will then be
progressed onto the teams having to score in a certain direction.
Truck and trailer activity where the students get there first taster of man marking
where they need to follow where their marker is going.
Students will then be put into threes and will practice running creative lines
and the other attempts to find the offense whilst the defender tries to stay
tight to them.
Students will then take what they have learnt and put it into a game and
make sure they tag up.

Week 5: Running Backs
By the end of week 5 students will demonstrate the proper technique for running
with the football and be able to understand why they are effective.
Students will start by playing a game of Oklahomas. Where the students are tag
belted up and have to get across the line without being tagged but the targets are
different to emphasize the import of small gains in yards.
Students will then be put into teams and perform relay races using different
running routes that will be used in a game situation.
Students will then play a rugby situational game. The ball can only be tossed or
pitched underhand. The targets will be end zones but the pitch size is large to
encourage running plays.
