ApproachConsiderations
Thediagnosisofclusterheadache(CH)isbasedonhistoricalandphysicalfindings.Ahistoryofattacksthat
occurwiththecharacteristicperiodicityandrhythmicityisthekeytothediagnosis.Laboratorystudiesarenotof
particularvalueinthisregard.
Imagingstudies,thoughnotdiagnostic,areusefulforexcludingotherpotentialcausesofheadacheinselected
patients.Neuroimagingwithassessmentoftheintracranialandcervicalvasculatureandthesellarandparanasal
regionisrecommendedinallpatientswithatypicalpresentationsoftrigeminalautonomicheadaches.
