Vacation Essay
In New York State, the town Inlets name means The Head of Fourth Lake. Inlet New
York is one of the best places to vacation. The climate/environment, recreational activities, and
culture/history of Inlet New York makes it a great vacation destination. The climate and
environment in inlet is very different than Pennsylvania.
The climate and environment in Inlet is very different than Pennsylvanias climate and
environment. First of all, the environment of Inlet is mostly mountains and forests with lots of
lakes. It is very cold in the winter, so be sure to pack warm clothing. But it does get mildly
warm. In July it is the hottest, and the record high temperature was set in July in 2012 at 95
degrees. So definitely pack sun tan lotion. But in the winter it gets very cold. In January it is
usually the coldest, and the record low temperature was set in February in 1979 at -52 degrees.
There is not a ton of precipitation in Inlet, but there is still some. October is the wettest month
with and average of 5 inches. Otherwise the precipitation is very steady throughout the year.
Because of the varying temperatures, the activities vary from on another.
Because of the different temperatures, the activities in Inlet are very diverse. For
example, you can go boating, swimming, and fishing. All of those activities can be done in the
Eight lakes. There is also ice skating and sledding. These activities can (and usually must) be
done in the winter. But not all activities must be done in specific seasons. Gold can be done at
the Inlet Golf Course. Tennis can be played at the tennis courts in Arrowhead Park. Camping can
be done almost anywhere. For people interested in biking, they can try to step it up a notch by
trying Mountain Biking. Also, for all those horse lovers, you can ride with professionals at the
stable. None of these activities would exist in Inlet if there was no history behind it.

The history of inlet is very important to its modern day life. Inlet was born in the
1890s. In March 1889, five businessmen started the Fulton Chain Club. Later that year, they
purchased 6,000 acres of land surrounding the Head of Fourth Lake and extending to Limekiln
and Seventh Lake. Fred Hess was hired by the club as the forest superintendent. A saw mill was
built at Fifth Lake in 1892 which provided limber for the club. In the late 1890, the club sold 30
acres to Fred Hess. He built the Hess Inn in 1892-1893. The club started selling lots of land
to campers for $200 each. Highways and more means of transportation were being built Finally,
in 1901, the official Town Of Inlet was born. Overall, the climate, activities, and history of Inlet
all factor into its modern day life.
Inlet New York is one of the best places to vacation. First off, the weather in Inlet is very
different than what we are used too. Secondly, some recreational activities there are seasonal, and
some are all time. Lastly, Inlet was founded by five business men back in the 1890s. Therefore,
if Inlets name does mean The Head of Fourth Lake, then it means Inlet is a great place to see
and play on water.
