Multicultural Pedagogical Creed
Introduction: In the transition to Common Core State Standards,
teachers are expected to push our students to discuss big ideas
without being buttressed by over-involved educators. We are expected
to prepare them for discussion and lead them into each one, allowing
them to exercise their critical thinking skills. My pedagogical creed is
based around the ability to discuss and grow through thoughtful,
collaborative contribution. I tried to address the big issues of context,
mass media, and personal responsibility. I plan to follow this creed in
order to give my students the space and help to become intentional
members of a global community.
Pedagogical Creed:
I believe that the context in which our students are raised effects their
thought processes; therefore I will not ignore this context but embrace
it in a way that will allow our class to see its pros and cons.
I believe that our culture strives for a generic culture; therefore I will
encourage and enable my students to see culture as a beautiful and
differentiate thing that shouldnt be generalized, but embraced in
every day interactions.
I believe that teachers can have a larger impact on how their students
see there world than family can; therefore I will strive to present
culturally diverse information to my students every week and
encourage them to give it respect.
I believe that students do some of their hardest thinking in the
classrooms and halls of our schools; therefore I will try to make my
classroom an inclusive and thoughtful place in which all cultures are
represented and acknowledged.
I believe that universal respect is the cornerstone of a truly talented
academic; therefore I will form a curriculum for my students that is
steeped in the diverse cultures of our globalizing world.
I believe that mass media pays little attention to the positive aspects
of our diverse culture; therefore I will expose my children to a diverse
collection of art and literature in an effort to help them become wellrounded students and ready to enter our times workforce.

I believe that a egocentric world is shallow; therefore I will push my

students to realize that their world is far wider than they could imagine
through diverse books, literature, and current events that we discuss in
class.
I believe that children learn by doing; therefore I will give them the
opportunity to study a culture they are unfamiliar with and present it to
the class in order to edify one another on the international context in
which they may not realize that they are living.
I believe that respectful and open discussion can change the
paradigms that we build ourselves into; therefore I will facilitate deep
discussion on important topics of diversity and allow my students to
learn how to engage in meaningful and positive discussion about
cultural diversity.
I believe that there is hope for our students despite an increasingly
polarized cultural landscape; therefore I will treat them as intelligent
people who can recognize the truth around them and embrace the
diversity they will see more and more as they grow older.
