: Grammar

When it comes to teaching grammar to young learners, an implicit


approach is unavoidable. The young learners do not really have the mental
capacity to understand or grasps the abstract concept of grammar rules.
The strength from my lesson was, the students easily catch the main idea
of todays lesson. This was the result as they have been introduced with the
same topic earlier this week. Besides that, my lesson today was a bit interesting
for them as they able to do the activity outside the class and they equipped with
air conditioned room with ict help.
One of the problem that I am able to find was, several students in the
class does not understand English along with the other students. The second one
was, my lesson quite stiff as they need to be equipped with some graphics and
cartoon as that will trigger their interest
So, in order to overcome this problem is, I need to be more creative for my
next lesson planning and include more child-friendly activity.

: Language Arts

Today was one of the days where my heart was pumping really hard.
Todays lesson was on Language Arts, where I was focusing my lesson on the
story Little Red Riding Hood.
The strength from my todays lesson plan was, there are a lot of graphics
as I conclude picture and video clip for my teaching. The next thing was, the
students able to participate in the lesson as they enjoy reading the poem in
group and several of the students volunteered to read the poem alone.
Some weaknesses that I found form my lesson was, my students were lack
of basic vocabulary understanding. For me, it was a bit turndown as I need to
teach them and translate almost every word for them.
For my next lesson, I need to make sure all the students to bring along
their dictionary as it will help them finding the basic vocab thus make them can
master the process of finding words in dictionary.

: Reading

Reading is a skill where the communication between writers and readers


are being shared and almost mutual understanding is created between them. It
is through the many written clues that the readers will try to unravel the
messages being shared to them by the writer. Thus, in todays lesson of reading,
I was focusing my students upon the idea of understanding text through
reasoning. I let my students watch and listen to the animated video of the
reading text. I was trying to let my students to guess the idea in the text by first
watching and listening to the content of the text before they themselves do the
reading. Next, I give my students the text to read and let them read it silently.
This is to let them become acknowledge by the words that they have watched
from the video to the wordings in the text. Using the animated video of the
contents in the text was able to roll some excitements to the students. They
were all excited to be allowed to watch a cartoon in a class.
Though, I learn that there are some students who seems not to be able to
relate on what they have heard from the video to the text that they are about to
read. I think it is maybe because the students were not focusing on the story
read in the animated video but they were to engross in the pictures of the
cartoon. Despite all that, the children gave their fullest attention to the next
activities of group work and individual work. This time, the group work is quite
easier since I have changed the table arrangement. Everyone in the class can sit
on a grouped table and work their way through the activity. They seem to be able
to move better and with a lot more ease.

Lastly, I think that being able to relate to a story or text that is being read
by the students is one of the most important things in learning to read. It would
be hard if we are reading something that we cannot connect or link to our own
self. Thus, I will try my best to be better prepared when I am choosing the
materials for my students and learn the students background knowledge first.
