Rationale Cover Page
Standard 3: Learning Environments
Description: The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual
and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in
learning, and self-motivation. (www.ccsso.org).
Rationale: To document my understanding of inTASC Standard 3, I have selected to
complete my service learning hours at Noblesville Middle Schools (to complete the mandatory
projects.) I plan to utilize the principle of collaborative learning, as the standard states. It
influences positive social interaction among peers. And, lastly, when I observe, I hope to gain
knowledge as well as discipline to see what it is like to teach.

Intro: There are nine different grades/schools that influence the classroom environment. I
will list these grades/schools in chronological order. Along with this, I will mention the schools
that I have attended. This will represent the entirety of each entry. It will begin with preschool all
the way to College, in addition to summer school and enrichment camps. Altogether, nine
examples of grades/schools will count toward my focus of the influence in the classroom
environment.
Major Events: From what I remember, I attended preschool at a church in KY. Since I
was so small, I barely remember what I learned or who my peers were. In consequence, I cant
remember if there was play time, if there was nap time, or if there was movie time, but it doesnt
mean that these lower grades are unimportant for youngsters. Preschool is a time where young
ones are still learning the basics of everyday necessities, like learning to ride a bike or
introducing themselves to others. Because of this, learning is inviting. Primary grades exist of
school after preschool. I attended K-4 in this state, (IN) and I thoroughly loved my time being at
New Britton Elementary. The teachers whom I loved were Mrs. Racine and Mrs. Forrer. Here,
youngsters are encouraged to express what they believe in. They can be random, spirited, and
heart-felt like the gist of primary schooling. Preschool is fun, K is gettin the hang of it, and
elementary grades are exciting. Its these times where one can be positive.
I attended middle school at Fishers Junior High and Riverside Middle School. These are
the grades I am most interested in teaching. In 7th grade I attended FJH, where as in 8th grade I
attended RJH. During Middle School kids are introduced to lockers and take on more
responsibility. They are devoted to their schoolwork and extracurricular activities. They learn to
be interdependent. These years were special to me because I was a globetrotter and I won two
awards when I attended Riverside from Mrs. Kearns (math) and Mrs. Prater (English.) I want to

teach English. I am motivated to attain this. I went to Fishers High School and one of my favorite
teachers was Mrs. Ingwersen. I got involved in extracurriculars like track and field, cross
country, diving, key club, and band class. I really liked this. And in college I started here at Ivy
Tech, transferred to Ball State, but didnt do as well as I expected. When I was at Ball State my
classes were rigorous and I talked more to my peers THAN my teachers. I want to be a teacher
that every student can refer to if they need help.
Now Id like to mention one of my favorite friendsNatalie Pritz. Without here I would
not be the person who I am today. She worked with me on Psychology and Govt in High
School; those subjects were difficult for me. She is by far everything a tutor can be, and now she
is at IU with flying colors attending to be a nurse. Ive taken summer school before. Ive taken
Trig. and Soc. at Ivy Tech and Micro and Botany at Ball State. Man was BIO 210 hard, but I met
some students who were so kind. I do not really attend enrichment camps, but if I did, Id try my
very best to cherish that experience. I did attend Camp Crosley in Jr. High, and I loved it.
Conclusion: I have enjoyed my school-life experience. There are the ups and downs,
including getting adjusted to the classroom environment, but it is all for the better. Originally I
wanted to be a P.T. Its extremely competitive. Finishing out my school career to become a
licensed teacher is my aim, my glory, my fortress. I want to have a family some day but I can
make no guarantees. Id get to be with students every day. I would really love to have that!
