Cadenza for

Beethovens Duet
mit zwei obligaten Augenglsern

by Bernard Zaslav
As a viola student of Lillian Fuchs at Yale Summer School of Music in 1957, cellist Joel Krosnick,
a student of Luigi Silva, and I were scheduled to perform the Eyeglasses Obbligato duet at a
student concert. As we rehearsed the piece together, I (secretly) came up with this slight
nosegay of a cadenza, derived solely from Beethovens own themes. Upon hearing it for the
first time at the concert, Ms. Fuchs was shocked at my audacity, but not amused.
