Only Two More Months of Kindergarten!
Its pretty amazing how

of 2015 are coming to a
close! Scholars are doing
such a wonderful job at

preparing themselves for

Again, if the fee is becoming

figure out a solution! I want
to see each scholar attend
this fun event!

The Spring Festival that

was held last Saturday was
so much fun! Thank you to
all of the families who
helped and attended the
Festival - it was pretty hot
and sunny, but I saw so many
scholars having a blast! I
just love seeing our community in South Phoenix coming
together and having fun! :)

I was slacking a bit in

getting scholars to take
home a reading sheet last
week - I apologize for this,
and want you to know that
this week, I will be much
more proactive about this!
Scholars will take home a
sheet from their workbooks
each night, so they can show
you how well they can read!
These sheets are also where
I pull many of the spelling
words for the weekly tests.
When you scholar sees their
spelling words in a text, it

more information on a new

The Seven Habits Begin With the End in Mind!

As we near the end of Kindergarten, we are really looking ahead to when scholars
will start First Grade! When we think about the skills and abilities scholars should
master in order to excel in First Grade, we are beginning with the end in mind! Our
job in Kinder is to prepare ourselves with a strong foundation for future schooling
(and to have fun doing it!).

Coming Up...
Scholars will continue to practice their phonograms each day, especially the newest letter sounds
(these are pretty tough!). We will also be reading
from our workbooks and readers, blending sounds to
make words, and improving our penmanship! We will
review prepositions, nouns, verbs, and adjectives as
well!
In math, scholars will continue learning about
subtraction. We did many story problems that asked
us to take away objects last week, and we will move
more into number sentences using the minus sign this
week!
This week, scholars will be learning about Csar
Chavez! We will tie in our knowledge about farms
while we learn about Chavez and his accomplishments!

Learning in Depth (LiD)

At the honor roll assembly on Friday, Dr. Winsor gave a brief overview about a new program that Paideia has decided
to participate in. This program, called Learning in Depth (LiD), will promote scholars to become experts on a particular idea
or topic. Each school year at Paideia, scholars will learn more about their topic through research, reading, and exploration.
The Kindergarten classrooms will be learning about Biomes, with each classroom taking on a
different Biome. Our class will be learning about the Ocean! Last week, we began looking
at videos and pictures of different plants and animals that live in the ocean, and also looked
at maps to see the many different oceans and seas on our planet. By the end of this week,
I am hoping that each scholar can find an interest about a particular aspect of the Ocean
that they would like to focus on for the rest of the school year. I will be sending home
more information with some topic ideas, and I would like you to help your scholar choose
something that interests them (such as a particular animal, a plant, a certain sea/ocean,
etc). This project will require help from parents/family members/etc, as scholars may
have to use the internet, go to the library, or use other resources to research and learn
about their topic. By the end of the quarter, scholars should put together a project/
poster/diagram of their idea, and write a short paragraph and present their topic to their
classmates. This program takes a lot of work at home, as we will only be spending one day a
week at school learning more about the Ocean in general. Although there is a lot of work
involved, I know it will be a lot of fun! :)
