VI.

Diversity / Differentiation:
This class is a moderate/severe SDC class with students ranging from kindergarten
through 3rd grade. The lesson has been fully adapted to meet the needs of all learners. The
information is projected on the large screen so it is easy for all students to see. The students are
divided into small groups with classroom aides to assist in the assignment to describe the farm
animals. For those unable to write, the Speech Notes App will be available. Also for non-verbal
students who are also unable to write, the App Proloquo2Go will be available to assist the students
with the assignment.

Technology Inclusion:
The technology in the class will first include the Elmo projector and screen. This
will enable the YouTub video to be projected large enough for the whole class to
see clearly. The App Speech Notes-Free on the iPads will be used for students
who are unable to write. The Apps on the iPads will be used to allow student to
practice sorting, spelling, and tracing.

VIII. Prior Knowledge: Prior to this lesson, students have: learned the basics of farm animals
and will be further reviewing and expanding their knowledge of these animals and their
different characteristics and attributes.
Lesson Placement in the Unit: This is lesson _2_ of _10__.

IX.

Procedures:

1. Lesson Introduction / Anticipatory Set:

Start lesson by showing the YouTube video All About Farm Animals
using Elmo projector connected to teacher computer.
Using the Smartboard images library, show various pictures of
farm animals and practice describing each one as a group.

2. Direct Instruction:
Review the animals the class talked about yesterday. Today they
will get even more information about their farm animal. Show the
books by Gail Gibbons. Show the students how to get more
information from the book. Have them focus on things like: Where
on the farm does the animal live? What does their animal do
(walk, fly, swim, etc.). What do they eat?
3. Student Interaction with lesson content / Guided Practice:
Divide class into two groups. The first group will choose an animal
to research from the books to create their list of describing words.
Students who are unable to write will use the App Speech NotesFree. The second group will use their IPads to play the learning
App Farm Animals. They will have the opportunity to learn the
sounds the animals make, putting the animal in the correct barn
(sorting), and learning to identify an animal with letters. They can
see the letters for cow, trace the letters with their finger, and
move on to the next animal.
4. Independent Practice:
Student will use the video recording feature on their IPad to start a
farm journal. The prompt of the day is: What is your favorite farm
animal and why? They will use the reverse camera feature to
record themselves. Students will need assistance setting this up
and practicing.
5. Review / Closure:
Students will return to the rug for a short wrap-up of the days lesson.
