Space
In societys point of view, space is define as a satisfaction to a person life, which the
more a person has, the more they are prone to be happier in their life. In the United States, this
teaching has influence its citizens in believing that the more space a person has, the more he/she
will be happy in their life, and has certainly created a culture life on every US citizen. Before
knowing the value of space, I used to believe that more space meant more happiness, but after
learning others diverse viewpoint, I believe that space is define as part of a persons life
satisfaction, which anyone can live on any amount of space the person desires as long as the
person is happy with their overall life.
Space can be dictated in many forms of behaviors that depends on the persons
environment. In the United States, the country is best known as a Capitalist nation that consumer
good is necessary for the country to sustain its economy and the nation itself. Also, being a 1st
world country and containing the largest consumer good in the world. The nations itself already
fills the basic survival necessities that most of the world populations struggle to acquire the most
need on every human, which is food, water, and shelter. What deprives the people from realizing
the space value they hold is the media corporation that are deceiving the people in believing that
every person needs more space in their life. By informing this wicked information to the people,

since people can sometimes be nave on the ethics they trust, the people loses its satisfaction
standards, thus forming an ideology that more space is the ultimate satisfaction a person needs in
order for them to be happy. When the information already pertains on the individuals mind,
he/she loses its happiness and results in striving the illusionary goal of acquiring more space,
which in reality result in loss of social interactions, develop anxiety, and shorten their life span.
Therefore it creates a destruction to every human beings life. If a person is overall happy in their
life, then he/she does not have to strive more than what they have, and continues to have that
happiness until death.
People with huge or small space can acquire happiness by having social interactions with
people. An example is a psychologist, Dr. Richard F. Talfinger, a sociologist professor at
Washington State University, states that humans are social creatures, the most social on earth
(Washington). Whenever we do not fill these important requirements in our life, it can result in
loss of one self, cause confusion, and importantly being unhappy. Another example is myself,
where I discovered that the more I interact with the people I know and meet in my daily life, I
realized I worry less of having more space than non-interacting with the people around me,
which have done that of course, and resulted me in expanding my space and buying more items
than what I have in order for me to fill that satisfaction. Many people are not aware that
socialization is an important component to every human being because we talk about our
problems to the people that know and care for us, and from that, our problems instantly fade
away. On married couple, most of them are happy on being together no matter the amount of
space they have in their homes. Especially for single people living together, which the more they
interact with people, the less likely they will worry about expanding their space. In addition,

people who expand their space are likely to have a sense of greed and selfishness, which in the
United States has formed this type of culture among people who do not communicate enough
with people. Compare to other countries as European countries that do not develop this personal
conflict on others since the people there are more socialize and more likely to trust each other.
Throughout the Space project topic, learning from others different viewpoint was a
difficult transition from having more in having more of less. The difficulties were limiting the
amount of space in a small house, which prove to require a change in mind because there were
many items that needed to be place in small house. After several weeks of reading, seeing, and
hearing people living in space saving houses result in the amount of money the person save
compare to living in massive house, or large quantity of space. Also, the people who appreciate
living in space saving houses were more happier and satisfy in their lives than a rich person
living in a top quality house. Every cities from different countries are increasing their sale/rent
prices, and CNN reports that urban cities are quickly raising the price (CNN). The reason to
this is because many cities contain large entertainment lifestyles as New York City. The space
amount in those cities are small, but charge on the environment on where the person lives, thus
putting the value on the environment more than the place. Same with other cities on different
countries where the price of renting an apartment is higher than of the United States. The
entertainment center, no matter the type of entertainment, on every city plays a huge role in
attracting the people, and especially foreigners who come to visit in the city.
In the United States, the American dream still holds a strong a name on the country,
which the definition is striving the most materials if one works hard enough. Anyone can achieve
the American Dream in this country, and also acquire a large space in their house if they can

balance their money chain, which balancing their budgets on bills, savings, and entertainment
spending. Social media and society has always interpret that the American Dream as having a
large house with luxury items, and the examples use to support their claim is successful business
person, medical and law professionals, and professional athletes. People can achieve the
American Dream if they want to, but will they be available to balance their budget, work, and
happiness. These people have somewhat an easy life, though, many of them work all day in their
jobs in order for them to continue living in their large homes. This is where these people start to
lose their sense of joy over their lives, and realize that the amount of space they have in their
house does not satisfy themselves, and can cause psychological problems, as depression, anxiety,
and low self-esteem. Furthermore, a study from the American Psychological Association reports
that people working long hours of jobs, even professional jobs, are harmful to both physical and
emotional health (APA). Another survey conducted on 2012, reported that over 65% of
Americans worry more about their work than anything in their lives, and that 37% of Americans
reported they were doing an excellent or very good job managing stress (APA). Few report
have been made over successful people not satisfy with themselves because of the job they work,
which if they not satisfy, then their homes does not fill in the missing gap some question what
they are missing. Social media influences the American people that larger space is the permanent
happiness for everyone, which in reality is only conditional because materials and space only
satisfy part of the human needs, and many people in the country are excessively acquiring large
amount of space without realizing their will be limit. Not many achieve the American Dream
as this country is known for, but many are satisfy in their living conditions, even living in small
houses of 200 square feet.

Many people will depend on themselves whether or not they desire to live in small or
large house as long as they feel that they are living their life perfectly. Not many people will be
willing to live in small house for many personal reasons, which some require more personal
space, claustrophobic, large amount of items to be stored somewhere, and many more reasons
people have. Change is something people are scared of or do not want to adjust differently
because they are satisfy with what they are. Sacrificial to certain items is what many people do
not want to do because of psychological necessity, an example is a hoarder person who stores up
any items that they feel is crucial to them, and do not realize that they are excessively acquiring
items that does not benefit them in any way. In this world, people have different mind set that
are not meant to be equally the same, which certain people will never adapt to a small house or
large house for personal reasons. In modern times, people are finding their source of relief of
finding news way to save space, and gratitude to the people who changes the people mind set in
fulfilling the missing gap people have wondered throughout their entire years,
In the United States society, many are being influence in believing that space is the
source of happiness in their life, which in reality creates more conflict to certain people, and
anyone is free at their will to live in any house environment as they please, no matter the amount
of space, as long as they are satisfy with their overall life.
