Students will explore the different native tribes of Canada through an interactive website activity.

DAY 3

THE GEOGRAPHY
OF CANADA

Students will use internet sources to do some research on Canada and its geography. Using this information, the
students will make a map that will label each individual province and territory of Canada including things like original
settlers, main industries, capital cities and other factors.

Students will learn about language in Canada. They will participate in both whole group and small group instruction
on language trends in the country, specifically with bilingualism.

EVERYDAY LIFE

Students will learn about Canada's National Identity through a quick PowerPoint in the beginning of the lesson. For
the remainder of the period the students will participate in a paired-group activity where they will be researching
Canada's National identity and everyday life characteristics. The students will be required to create a brochure/
informational pamphlet with pictures and minor descriptions.

Students will study a Canadian Aboriginal piece of art. Students will then interpret it and use that information to
apply it to their own identity and who they are.

Students will learn about the 3 levels of Government in Canada. They will have to complete a chart of
responsibilities for each individual level in the Canadian Government.

Students will read and watch a video to learn about Quebec's fight for independence. They will participate in an
informational debate and argumentative writing.

Students will start off using Poll Everywhere to submit a response about what they know about the education system
in The United States. The responses will be displayed on the SMART Board to start a discussion. The students will
then proceed to complete a Scavenger Hunt focused on the education in Canada. The students will then complete a
Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the differences between The United States and Canada.

Students will learn what the four types of industry are in Canada; Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, and Quaternary. From
this students will engage in an activity to understand how the transportation industry could potentially affect the
economy.

Students will participate in a candy trading activity in an effort to demonstrate how standard of living improves with
re-distribution of resources. Following the activity students will a Power Point lecture and then gather in small groups
to discuss Canadian trade.

Students will TWEET in one concept of Canada that they learned over the unit. The students responses will be
projected onto the SMART Board and a discussion will be held. After, the students will play the EGGSPERT review
game which uses the EGGSPERT Wired Interactive Game System to review. The students will play on teams and use
buzzers to answer. Students will be encouraged to take notes during the game to use on the final assessment.
