Course
Description

This is a course in precalculus and statistics, designed to prepare students to

enter college at the calculus level. It includes rational, trigonometric, and inverse
trigonometric functions; basic trigonometric identities and the laws of sines and
cosines; and sequences and series. Pre-requisites are the successful completion
of with Mathematics 3 or Accelerated Mathematics 2.

Does this clearly identify the

broad goals or topics to be
covered? Does it outline the
general topics, concepts and
skills to be covered?
Yes

Learning
Outcomes

By the end of the semester, students will have learned how to do the following with
80% accuracy:
Find co-terminals, supplementary angles, and complimentary angles
Convert radians to degrees and degrees to radians
Label and understand the Unit circle with Radians, Degrees, and
coordinates.
Find missing sides or angles of right triangles
Solve trigonometric functions
Find any given angle on the unit circle
Graph sine, cosine, secant, cosecant, tangent, and cotangent
Find missing sides or angles using the law of sine or the law of cosine
Solve words problems using the law of cosine and the law of sine

Winslett (2014)

Are these measurable and/or

observable? Do they
describe what students must
know and be able to do? Do
they involve some cognitive
challenge and active
learning?
yes

Topics by Week

and complimentary, and converting from radians to degrees and degrees to
radians.

Did you list the topics to be

covered each week?

YES

Expectations of
Student
Participation

Students will:
Contribute an original post to the weekly discussion
Contribute 2 replies to peers each week on the weekly discussion
Complete all activities, lessons, and exercise by themselves unless told
otherwise by Mrs. Winslett
Complete all graded activities such as quizzes and tests without any
outside materials.
Turn in all material to the required drop box on time,

Did you outline class

participation with descriptions
of how it is measured
(expectations for discussion
forums, number and
frequency of logins, amount
of time in online class, group
project participation,
synchronous sessions, etc.)?
Yes

Student
Communication
Expectations

While communicating with classmates, all students will be respectful of others

opinions. Students will communicate in a professional manner and be kind in their
posts. Students will always move the conversations forward. Students will use

Did you explain the

consequences for not
submitting assignments on
time?
Yes

Winslett (2014)

Grading Policy

Your grades will be based on weighted percentages.

Formative assessments will count for 20%.
Summative assessments will count for 60%.
The Midterm and Final exam will count for 20%.

Is a grading policy defined

with point distribution or
weighting scheme? Is the
grading scale is included?
Yes

Students will receive their grade based on the total percentage:

100%-90% = A
89%-80% = B
79%-70% = C
69% or below will require the student to have a conference with the teacher to
discuss options.
Assessments

Students will have at least one quiz to complete each week that will match that
weeks learning objectives.
Students will also be required to engage in weekly discussions to ensure that all
students understand the material before taking their quiz.
At the end of every unit, a test will be given. The kind of test that will be taken will
depend on what the unit allows for.
Projects will be assigned though out the semester to ensure that all topics are
being remembered and to show how one topic relates to another.

Are a variety of assessment

types included? Is at least
one assessment requiring
either applying, analyzing,
evaluating, or creating?
Yes

Quizzes will be automatically graded with an answer key by the computer

Discussion Forums will be graded using the discussion forum checklist/rubric
Tests will be graded using a rubric
Any projects assigned will be graded using a rubric or checklist given to the
students ahead of time.
