MOJO MAGAZINE
Before creating my own reader profile I wanted to look at other magazine media packs and
reader profiles. I choose one with the same genre as me rock/indie to get a feel of real media
products out there. I chose Mojo because it is main stream and popular magazine having a
circulation of 70,667 in the year 2014 compared to Q magazine having a circulation 0f
52,781 in 2014. I want to used their conventions to influence my own work. A Mojo reader is
dominantly male and it aims at the 45-50 age bracket. I am trying to go for a younger mixed
gender audience.
A typical reader has a job, is
interests in the rock and indie
genre, they enjoying discovering
new bands/artists as well as going
to many concerts (more than
festivals). They prefer darker
shades of colours although their
fashion sense is very alternative
at times.
Reader profile.
This is Harry Otoole, he is 18 year old male and is passionate
about rock / indie to pop / indie music. This influences a lot of
what he does in daily life such as his social life, hobbies,
attitudes and his fashion sense. He loves to go to concerts to
see his favourite bands such as, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers,
The Kooks etc., with his friends. He loves to buy the SHOUT
magazine to find out about new upcoming bands that arent
yet mainstream, as well as finding out tour dates and what his
favourite bands have been getting up to. He follows fashion
icons such as Jake Bugg and Alex Turner (lead singer of Arctic
Monkeys), with the bomber jackets and dark clothing. He likes
to shop in clothing shops such as Top man and Burton. His
hobbies include playing guitar and creating music, he also love
the colour, dark green.
He loves to share his love for music on social networking
websites such as Facebook and Instagram which is advertising
of those bands/artists.
MOOD BOARD
I have chosen to
have a female model
because I am using
Laura Mulveys
theory of Male Gaze
that women are
objectified in the
media industry. For
example in my
research the Rolling
Stones cover uses
Mulveys theory for
Lana Del Rey.
However in this case
this will promote my
magazine having an
attractive women for
men and women will
want to buy the
magazine because
they see an
attractive women
being successful. So
Location
I have three locations in where to take my shoot for my magazine.
COSTUMES/MAKE UP
For the costume of my model I
decided I wanted her to wear
darker colours, due to the make
being bright with red lips. I came
down to these I as I said I wanted
to use Laura Mulveys theory of the
Male Gaze and this is what I am
trying to create with the short
skirt; however I am not sure what
my audience think so I asked them

two won, from
verbal feedback
they liked the
skirt but not the
top of the other
outfit, so I have
crossed the two
outfit one
outfit two
outfits and using
the skirt and
jumper/top.
