Assessment Data Notebook

This data notebook is to help me keep track of my vocabulary terms dealing with
assessment. To demonstrate my mastery of the term, I am defining the term, giving
examples of the term, and explaining how I will use it in my classroom.

Summative

A summative
assessment
occurs at the end
of a test, unit or
course. It is high
stakes and has
points assigned
to it.

Diagnostic
Assessment

A diagnostic
assessment is
given to a
student to collect
data and see
what the student
knows. A
diagnosis can be
reached after the
assessment is
analyzed.

A benchmark

given to students
to see what skill
level they are at.

what information the
students have

I will use the bell

the effectiveness of
my math and science
tests. I will also know
how many students
have mastered the
specific concepts in
math and science.
I will use normreferenced tests to
chart my students

of time. I will use the
data to see what

will compare how well

standards compared
to students in the

surrounding districts.
I will use criterionreferenced tests in my
math and reading
classes to see how
well my students have
mastered the
standards. I will
occasionally use
company made end of

math class to see how
well students master
the concepts on the
chapter test.
I will use curriculum
based assessments in
my classroom in my
math, science,
language arts, and
social studies classes
to make sure that the
assessments and
lessons correspond.
Also, I will promote
my students
accountability for
learning by giving
curriculum based
assessments. I will
give different projects,
such as science and
social studies
projects, to assess
students master of
the concepts in the
curriculum.

Rubric

A rubric is a form
of assessment to
evaluate
students
mastery of
specific concepts.
Rubrics reveal
exactly what
teachers expect
for the
assignment.
Rubrics should be
given to the
students at the
same time the
project is
assigned.

of the pyramid.
An informal

classroom so my
students know exactly
what I expect from
them for the
assignment. I will
always give the
rubrics to the
students at the same
time I assign the
project or assignment.
I will make sure I have
a rubric for an opinion
essay, a rubric for a
water cycle poster,
and a rubric for a
presentation in front
of the class.
I will use RTII in my
classroom by
assessing all students
to see if I need to
differentiate my
instruction. Also, I will
assess my students
often to make sure
they are in the right
tier and receiving the
appropriate
instruction and
interventions.

I will use informal

assessments, such as
observations and
discussions,
throughout the school
day to evaluate the
students mastery of a
concept or skill.
