Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection
NAEYC Standard:
STANDARD 7. EARLY CHILDHOOD FIELD EXPERIENCES
Field experiences and clinical practice are planned and sequenced so that
candidates develop the knowledge, skills and professional dispositions necessary to
promote the development and learning of young children across the entire
development period of early childhood-in at least two of the three early childhood
age groups (birth-age 3, 3 through 5, 5 through 8 years) and in the variety of
settings that offer early education (early school grades, child care centers and
homes, Head Start programs).
Brief Description of Evidence:
Throughout my years in school and in my own personal life, I have had the chance
to work with children of different age groups. I have had a chance to work with
children from birth to age 3 and from 3 through 5. I have provided several pictures
of me working with and teaching young children. Through my practicum, I have
worked with children in a preschool setting. Through my job, I have been able to
work in a couple different preschool classes. Also, I have worked with children in
child care, in multiple different settings.
Analysis of What I Learned:
Through completion of my practicum, I was able to learn how to teach children in
preschool setting. I learned what children should be learning from ages 3 to 5. I also
learned how to teach children of this age. Through my job, I have learned many
skills in managing behaviors. I have seen how other employees deal with children
with behavioral issues and I have picked up on some of their ways with dealing with
them. I have developed knowledge and several skills to promote development in
children through my fellow employees. John Bowlby is believed to be the first to
introduce the attachment theory. He believed that early relationships with
caregivers play a major role in development and continue to influence social
relationships throughout life. I whole-heartily agree with John and his attachment
theory.
How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard:
I have shown my competence of the NAEYC standard by providing many different
pictures of me working and teaching children of different age groups. I have shown
my competence in working with children in at least two of the three early childhood
age groups and in a variety of settings.
