Biodiversity and cultural diversity greatly affect one

another when looking at a country. Russia is a large country that has

biodiversity across the country. The biodiversity layer of the country
suffers major threats, which causes greater effects on the people of the
country. The National Wildlife Federation defines biodiversity as the
variety of life. Biodiversity can be viewed on many scales from as
large as looking at the earth as whole or a smaller scale within a pond
ecosystem or a neighborhood park(NWF). Cultural diversity is the
cultural differences or variety in a specific region or country. Russia is
heavily affected by both of these factors, which can create issues that
only can be solved by the Russian people.
The country of Russia has a large impact on the
biodiversity. Russia has close to ten different ecosystems. In these
ecosystems, there varieties of species that call these places home.
There are over 1400 different types of animal species across the
country and there are 11,400 vascular plant species alone
(Environmental Components). Russia is heavily involved in preserving
their forests and natural environments. They have thirty-five national
parks and 100 zapovedniks (strict nature reserves) (Environmental
Components). According to Environmental Components, the reserves
and parks occupy more than 2 percent of the countrys area which is
about the size of Germany. Russia views biodiversity as a large part of

their country and their culture, by preserving and working towards they
are making biodiversity everlasting.
The cultural diversity in Russia is heavily impacted by the
biodiversity in the country. There are many animals that are known as
living symbols in the country (Environmental Components). The most
popular animals are the bear and the sable; however depending on
what part of Russia one is from, the particular animals that are popular
might differ. In the Far East of the country, the people would say the
Amur Tiger but in the Far North of the country, they would say the
reindeer. These symbols have created a societal view of Mother Nature
to the people of Russia. Though these animals are symbols of Mother
Nature, they face the threat of poaching. The poaching of specific
animals has become a recent occurrence and it is impacting the
biodiversity in the country. This is a known fact in the Russian
community and many people take part take in the crime.
Russia is known for their harsh weather conditions due to the
various biomes represented across the country. With a large part of the
country being uninhabited, the population as a whole lives in a small
part of the country. As people start to expand to uninhabited areas, it
causes animals to be displaced and results in a loss of habitat for these
animals. As many animals start to migrate from the densely populated
areas it can cause extinction rates to rise because of the population
encroachment.

Russia is known for its cultural diversity with in its cities and as
a country a whole. Moscow is one of the largest cities in Russia and is
known for the various colorful buildings. The St. Basils Cathedral,
Ostankino Tower and Bolshoi Theatre are all large buildings
prominently known in the city. They are tall buildings able to
withstand the various types of weather and sea levels rising. They also
provide scenic views over the lakes and rivers that are home to many
people and tourist attractions for many who are visiting.
Russia is country that is heavily affected by its biodiversity and
cultural diversity. Though changes are occurring in both areas, they
have not caused major issues to occur with in the country. As the
changes in biodiversity continue, it will cause a change in the cultural
diversity to occur. Russia makes it a priority to preserve and protect its
biodiversity with the 100 nature reserves around the country. Though
biodiversity is constantly changing Russia, the country makes sure that
its bio diverse lands are protected at all times.
