Teaching Philosophy

I strongly believe in encouraging a love for learning and supporting the needs of all
students in my classroom. From my experience, students learn best when they feel supported in
a positive learning environment. I will aim to continually challenge my students and promote
learning in ways that are exciting and creative. I will strive to ensure that students are working
within their ZPD (zone of proximal development) and I will differentiate to meet the needs of all
learners. I believe in ensuring that all students are treated fairly and with respect. I will create
an environment that is conducive to learning and a place of acceptance and inclusion.
Structure should be a sound aspect of the classroom environment and instruction with fair
and consistent discipline. I will be sure to make my expectations for the classroom clear and
encourage students to become responsible for their own actions and behaviors. Students should
know that they are important and valued in the classroom. I will praise loudly and correct softly.
I will use tools to help stay on top of discipline and ensure the classroom runs smoothly.
I will put student needs first and recognize that they are all unique individuals. Students
each learn differently, and I will incorporate ways to reach all of the students in my classroom
through my instructional planning. Lessons will be engaging, and the use of technology will
assist in this. I will consistently use authentic assessments in my instructional plans to ensure
that students have positive, engaging and interactive learning experiences. I will aim to be
flexible and make learning an enjoyable experience. I will encourage students to be critical
thinkers, and learn through exploration and work together to solve problems.
Collaboration is a huge component of teaching and I will work closely with other
teachers and staff in order to become more effective and help to reach all of my learners. I will
facilitate positive relationships between families and staff members and ensure that there are
open lines of communication. I will continue to be a lifelong learner and consistently stay
relevant and remain open to new ideas and concepts in the educational realm. I will learn new
things through professional development and collaboration with others. I will be open to other
ideas and will continually reflect upon the progress of students, as well as the effectiveness of my
teaching methods and instructional planning. Above all things, my focus will remain on meeting
the diverse needs of students and facilitating a positive learning environment.
