Lesson Plan Technology Workshop

Title: QR Codes Scan Your Way To Engagement


Standards Addressed:

NETS-T Standards: Standard 2: Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic


learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to
maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes
identified in the Standards-S. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that
incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.

Participants will become familiar with the NETS-T technology standards for
teachers and how these standards support and extend the standards established by the
Teacher Keys Effectiveness System (TKES).

TKES Standards: Performance Standard 2: The teacher plans using state and local
school district curricula and standards, effective strategies, resources, and data to address
the differentiated needs of all students.

Model Digital Age Work and Learning: teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work
processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society.

Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility: teachers understand local
and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit
legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices.

Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership: teachers continuously improve their


professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and
professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools
and resources.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will understand the importance of implementing technology into the


classroom.
Participants will understand what is a QR code?
Participants will actively participate/make a QR code.
Participants will understand how to implement QR Codes into the classroom in order to
make the teachers job more effective and efficient.

Materials Needed:

Computer, projector, handouts, smartphone

Outline:
Introduction:

Discuss the importance of incorporating technology into the classroom, e.g. student
engagement.

Discuss QR codes concept.


Discuss how students today differ from years ago.
Allow teachers to share their opinions of the learning process of todays students and
the use of technology incorporated into classroom instruction.
Take informational poll to see how many teachers utilize technology into classroom
instruction with their students.
Discuss that implementing QR Codes into classroom learning can interest student
engagement across disciplines.

Part I:

Give participants handout


Discuss the handout/presentation on PowerPoint regarding QR Codes and classroom
implementation.
Take an informal poll to see if teachers are interested now in using QR codes into
their classroom instruction.

Part II

Have participants log onto the computers.


Have participants download app for QR codes and actively demonstrate the use of
QR Codes.
Work through examples of use allowing participants to work, ask questions, and
explore QR codes and classroom integration.

Closing:
Arrive at a stopping point with teachers.
Encourage them to continue working with the use of QR Codes for the various
disciplines.
Give participants contact information in case they have additional questions.
Provide the PowerPoint presentation via email to the teachers to refer back, if needed.
Give participants the link to the Google docs Follow-up Survey and ask them to
complete at the end of the session.
Evaluation/Assessment:
Informal Assessment:
The instructor will monitor learning informally throughout the presentation. By
asking questions and soliciting feedback, the instructor will determine if participants
understand the content, if the instructional pace is appropriate, and if the content of
the workshop needs to be modified.
Formal Assessment:
An informal poll will be administered at the close of the workshop to determine if the
learning objectives were met and to gather ideas for relevant future technology
integrated workshops.
