Writer, Napoleon Hill, once said Think twice before you speak, because your words and
influence will plant the seed of either success or failure in the mind of another." A significant
achievement I experienced at Warren Easton Charter High School was becoming a member of
the National Honor Society. Becoming a member of the National Honor Society was a valuable
experience for me because it had a personal connection, acknowledged my hard work and gave
me hope for the future. During my junior year of high school, I was sitting in homeroom one
morning and the teacher called my name and handed me an envelope. Eager to see what was
inside the white envelope, I opened it. As I read the letter, I learned that was an invitation to join
the prestigious National Honor Society. I can vividly recall how joyous that day was after
receiving such pleasant news .Though it may seem that letter was just an invitation to the
National Honor Society, to me it was invitation to achieving success.
Three months, later I was officially inducted into the Warren Easton Charter High School
National Honor Society. This was a heartfelt achievement, due to the fact that my mother was the
president of the honor society when she was in high school. Not only was she a member but also
president of the society for two years. We both had high aspirations of me emulating her success
in high school by joining the honor society and graduating Valedictorian of my class. Though my
grades were exceptional, it was unlikely I would graduate Valedictorian; therefore it was
imperative I become a member of the honor society. This achievement served, not only as a

milestone in my life, but as recognition to my hard work and dedication to my studies. It felt
extremely pleasing to know that someone wanted me to join an organization of such high
standards. I had maintained a 3.5 Cumulative GPA that year and I can recall the long nights of
studying, the constant essays and other assignments I worked hard on since my freshmen year.
After all of my constant hard work and studying, my moment of recognition was now.
As I reflect back on this accomplishment, it is evident that this achievement encouraged me to
continue to work hard in school. Presently, I am a senior in high school. Though there are times
when I get lazy or decide to take a break, I always think back to smile on mothers face at the
honor society induction ceremony, when we took a picture holding my certificate. This
accomplishment also taught me that as I go through life, I must have an intrinsic motivation. I
must motivate myself for greater even when I am tired or distracted. When Im tired, finding
energy to continue to work is what will guarantee me success. I must always have a desire to be
better than I was the day before. I may never know when someone is watching my behavior or
my performance. Just as the quote mentioned earlier, my words will either plant seeds of success
or failure.
