HighqualityinstructionaltechnologyPDtakesagreatdealoftimetocreate.Thattime
shouldnotbeminimizedorunderestimated.Onecannotjustthrowtogetherasetof
cooltoolstodemonstratetoeducatorsandhopethatsomethingeffectivewillemerge
fromsuchasession.
Iwouldliketofocusmoreondoingnewthingsinnewwaysratherthandoingoldthingsin
newways(Prensky,2001).Iwouldtrytofocusonthetransformativenatureofa
technologyrichlearningexperiencesandnotmerelythecooltoolsaspect.Ihavewitnessed
thisbeforeinprofessionaldevelopment,someonereallyblowingyoursocksoffwithsome
newtechnologybutnotintoanyfurtherdepthtodemonstratehowitchangesteachingand
learningonanythingmorethanasurfacelevel.Thiswillultimatelyinvolvemoreresearchon
mypartandadeeperjourneyintoinstructionaltechnology.Itishardtoaffectanylasting
changeotherwiseanddevelopingPDthatspeakstoahigherlevelwouldindeedtakecareful
planning,whichtakestime.

InexaminingtheISTEs10TipsforLeveragingTechnology,Coaching,andCommunity,I
wouldliketoreachouttothemillenialsinmydepartmentwhoarestudyingtobecome
teachers.Wewouldlearn
with
technologyandnot
about
technology,andIwouldstriveto
meettheirlearningstylesbydevelopingafullyonlinecourse,thatishighlycollaborativeand
technologydriven.Iwouldlovetoworkwiththem,andhavetheworkwitheachother,to
developaportfolioofatechnologyrichunitfortheircontentarea,or810separatelessonsto
implementduringtheirstudentteaching.

1.VisionaryLeadership:TCsinspireandparticipateinthedevelopmentand
implementationofasharedvisionforthecomprehensiveintegrationoftechnologyto
promoteexcellenceandsupporttransformationalchangethroughouttheinstructional
environment.
ThisisdefinitelyanareathatIthinkisthebeststartingplaceformeatthisjunctureinmy
career.Ihavelimitedaccesstostudentsstudyingtobecometeachersandhigherlevel
accesstoprofessorsofthoseteacherstudents.Althoughmydepartmentdoesextenda
platformformetoexpressmyopiniononsomeinitiatives,itisusuallyinamoreadministrative
capacity.However,mygoalistostartmakingaleaptothemoreinstructionalaspectasInear
completionofmymastersandaswemoveforwardongoalsforadesignlabgearedfor
teachers.ThisiswhatIhaveinmindwhenIamlookingatthesestandards.SohowcanI
developacompellingvisionformydepartmentandcollegeasitpertainsto

technologyinfusedinstructionandplanning?Myvisionforourteachereducationdepartment
istoincludemoreinstructionthatexemplifiestheuseoftechnologyintheclassroom,
demonstratingtheabilityoftechnologytotransformlearning.Thedetailsofmyvisionbecome
muddledhoweveruponclosescrutiny,soitisthisfirststandardwhereIcouldreallyusesome
enhancement.Ineedtofigureouthowtoinsertmyselfintothislargerconversationwithinmy
departmentbutmoreimportantly,whatdoIwanttocommunicate?Whatdoesmyvisionlook
likeonamoregranularlevel?AndevenifIknowwhatthislookslike,canIcommunicateitto
othersinaclearandmeaningfulway?

2.Teaching,learning,andassessments:TCsassistteachersinusingtechnology
effectivelyforassessingstudentlearning,differentiatinginstruction,andproviding
rigorous,relevant,andengaginglearningexperiencesforallstudents.
Aspartofmyvision,Iwouldliketonotonlyadvocateforourprofessorstomodel
technologyenhancedlearningenvironmentsfortheirteacherstudents,Iwouldalsoliketo
personallymodeltheseenvironmentsasaserviceofourdesignlabthatwewillopennext
year.Thisdesignlabwillbeahightechspacewhereteacherscancomeanddesign
instruction,practicedeliveryviaaTeachLivesystem(thatIdontknowmuchaboutyet),and
designassessmentaswell.Itistoincorporatethecompletecycleofteachingandlearning.If
thislabishowIampicturingit,myideafordeliveringsamplelessonsthatincorporateISTE
NETSforTeacherswouldbeaperfectfit.Icouldmodeltheselessonsandthencoach
teachersontheirownimplementationoftechnologyenhancedlearningexperiences.
Basically,itwouldbemydreamtothethetechnologycoachassignedtothelabandworkwith
alloftheteacherswhocometouseit.

4.Professionaldevelopmentandprogramevaluation:TCsconductneeds
assessments,developtechnologyrelatedprofessionallearningprograms,and
evaluatetheimpactoninstructionalpracticeandstudentlearning.
Withtheknowledgegainedfromworkingwiththeseteachersandhavingcontinued
discussionsabouttheirinstructionalneeds,Iwouldliketodevelopprofessionaldevelopment
workshopsthatIcoulddeliveroutsideofthedesignlabandintheteachersclassroom.The
coachingwhitepapergavemesomeexcellentideasaboutthis!Thiswouldfunctionasan
extensionofourdesignlab,duallyservingtopromotetechnologyenhancedinstructionand
SMUsgraduateeducationprogramsamonglocalschooldistricts.Mydepartmenthasbeen
workingtoextendourprofessionaldevelopmentservices,especiallyinhighneeddistricts,
howeverdigitalagelearningenvironmentsisnotoneoftheareasonwhichwefocus.
