My Message To The World
My hope is that people in this world can change how they see the people and world
around them.
What I mean by that is in todays society there is a lot of comparison, unnecessary
judgment, irrational expectations and over glamorization of heinous behavior. It has been the
demise of every nation who loses sight of morals, values, dignity, integrity and even religious
belief. I believe that if we collectively decide to change how we act, think and feel towards
others we can ultimately change the world around us. Some say that it is a lost cause and that
everything is going up in flames, but I do not agree at all. We can get caught up in current events
and even the news, which only shows the negative side of what is happening in the world.
However, if we just focus on the difference we can make in the lives of those within our sphere
of influence we can make a change.
As I said, society has some pitfalls and errors. The problem lies in the deceit, sin,
outlandish actions and lack of love. You just do not find quality and forthright relations between
people anymore. Everything is about what is in it for me? It truly is a crux and an inhibitor to
producing a beautiful and marvelous society. Nothing seems to be about the good of the whole
either. It is just pure selfishness in abundance and continues to get progressively worse. Now I
am not proposing that the whole world is inherently evil, but that since a vast majority is to some
degree, there is a desperate cry for change. There just is not a substitute for wholesomeness, love,
charity, care, affection, etc. It is what gives meaning to life and our role here on earth. All hope is
not lost, there is actually a way that we can make the change.

Changing someones view or perspective is an extremely difficult task. It requires that
you give enough convincing evidence to override their life experience and opinions on crucial
subjects. This is why it is better to be the difference you want to see in the world. Simply because
you can not change anyone, but you can change how you interact with them. Glenn Shepard
wrote this principle saying, You cant change peoples mannerisms, but you can change your
own.(Glenn Shepard) For example, if I want to see more charity in my close circle of friends I
have to be the one to start. If I act charitably towards my friends they are more likely to be
charitable back. They can recognize that being charitable is important to me and they may even
see it as a way to gain a closer friendship with me. In the world today, that is the best approach.
We literally have to be the difference and if we do take a stand to make a change we will see it.
In my life I have been able to start this change and it has impacted a lot of people I really care
about.
While I was on my mission for the LDS church in Milan, Italy I learned something
critical about myself. As I was chatting with my companion one day during lunch I asked a series
of questions. These were questions that lead to my companion explaining to me that I am entirely
different from most of the world. He explained to me that I saw the world around me in a
completely different light than how others do. He said that I see everyone on an equal plain and
as children of God. Then he explained that means I believe each individual is no more important,
talented, wonderful or exceptional than another. On the other hand he told me that most of the
world views things in a type of hierarchy. For example, someone sees those who are on their
level, but they also see those who are above them and below them. Due to this pattern of thinking
they make daily decisions to move themselves up this hierarchal ladder so to speak. So as long as
they are above someone else they can justify being where they are, but then at the same time they

see a list of other people above them. This causes them to be harsh, judgmental, conceited and
even hateful. They put others down to put themselves higher, but even they do not see
themselves where they should be. So in short, rather than just seeing everyone as equal, they
keep chasing this never-ending road to be where they think they will find happiness. However,
they never get there because every step of progress they make changes their life experience,
expectations and perspective. So it ends up being a never-ending chase for something that you
will never obtain. It only leaves you in a pit of despair, lonely and never truly feeling satisfied or
happy. In order to hide the pain or unsatisfactory life they live they take it out on others and thus
the vicious cycle of causing the devastation around us begins.
My mind set is just one way that everyone can make a change and see the desired
difference we all would benefit from. Julie Fisher-McGarry and John Robbins said, keep our
hearts and minds open to all that lives.(Julie Fisher-McGarry, John Robbins) It is a remedy that
can be spread because it is contagious and it really does make the world a better place. A
YouTube channel called MotivationUS put this concept into a video called Pay it forward. As
you watch it you see how the first incident of kindness loops all the way around the city and
finishes back with the first person in the first incident of kindness. It demonstrates marvelously
how just by changing our perspectives, attitudes and behavior we can collectively make the
world a better place.
In conclusion, I really hope that through active effort to change the world around us we
can realize our potential to influence others for the better. That change starts with us and then
branches out to touch the lives of others. If we make a conscious effort to do good and to be good
we will see the difference around us and we will indulge in the beauty of being apart of it. I

sincerely believe that humanity and society still has the ability to be good, positive and full of
love. Despite what the world is like today we decide what the world will be like tomorrow.
