Topic: Black Stereotypes In Television and Film
EQ: How has television and film usage of stereotypes impacted how black teens define
themselves?
Statement Of Interest
I am interested in doing my ACP because I think that it would make a positive change on black
teens view on their race. My motivation for my ACP is I see so many of us black teens of all
different walks of life be put into a box of stereotypes. Most of the time we dont even know it,
but we follow the crowed or what's in and that can really hurt us as a race and how we view
ourselves. I feel like the black teens of this generation dont really know all of the true potential
that they have because of these figures in the media such as characters played in movies are who
they look up to. The main goal that I have for my ACP is to help black teenages realize that they
should be themselves.
Project Overview And Goals
My project would consisted of a documentary of teenagers, parents and elders and a group
decision. The documentary would show the interview I have with the people that I gather and
find for it. The actions I would be taking for my ACP is gathering people to feature in my
documentary and I would need to get the schools permission to have my interviews during and
after school hours. I would find people for the documentary in school and parents and elders
outside of school by the end of February. I hope to get people really thinking about the impact
that black stereotypes have on us black people and how it shapes us into the people we are. The
documentary would be shown the first week of April and shown to each grade with a group
decision following the documentary talking about it and what we can do to better ourselves as a
race.
Audience
The School would benefit from my ACP. Interviews would help the students of the school get a
clear understanding of where society puts black people and how they can break the cycle of
falling into these stereotypes.Since I am interviewing all types of people in different age groups
in and out of school I feel like it would help the community as a whole.
Materials
I would need a camera, a computer, a projector. I would interview the students randomly in the
hallways of the school before and after school. I would interview staff members in classrooms
everyday for 2 weeks starting March 2. I would make a timesheet when I can get these teachers
interviews so I can know when they are free. People would know about my ACP by just me

asking them to participate in it. I would have to reserve the auditorium or the lunch room for one
day on the first week of April..
