https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqERbsQlcBI and then discuss the clip
within their groups followed by a brief whole class discussion of the video.

After the students have read and have a foundation of who Tupac was SW

Afterwards SW gather together as a class and groups will share their
TPCASTT and explain the symbolism and allusions theyve pulled form the

Accommodation(s)
Formal and
Informal
Assessment
There was lots of differentiation embedded within this lesson. For one there
will be a lot of auditory and visual activities to capture both types of learners.
For my students who have a hard time sitting the entire class there was time
to get up and discuss the material within groups. I also provided lyrics to the
song and made sure students analyzed and understood the song before
hearing it opposed to simply letting them listen to it. Some students needed
to be able to read the lyrics to capture the full meaning since it goes by rather
quickly. This is also beneficial to my struggling readers so that they may
follow along by reading the text and as the song is playing they can hear
each work pronounced. This lesson was also very student oriented and
engaging because I incorporated music in to a poetry unit and this is strategy
that I think all students can benefit from.
Formal Assessment: Students will be formally assessed within this lesson
plan based upon their TPCASTT charts as well as the response to their Exit
Tickets.

Informal Assessment: Students will be informally assessed with their DO
NOW. While I am asking students very key questions I am not marking them
down in my grade book, but I am getting a clear understanding of what they
know, need help on and are completely lost about. Also their discussions that
they have during group work are another great way to informally assess
students. I can pay attention to the content of their discussions make mental
notes of who is actively participating and who isnt. This lesson provided a
great balance of formal and informal assessments for the students.
Academic Language
2. RESOURCES
Language
The key language function for this lesson would be analyze and compare.
Functions
This lesson requires that students are able to analyze lyrics and then
compare this type of genre to another effectively.
SW be required to read and annotate lyrics in the same way that they do
poetry and be able to compare and contrast the differences between the two
using a well know poet and music artist as an example.
Vocabulary SW demonstrate reading and writing vocabulary within their TPCASTT charts
as well as the language used within their Exit Ticket.
SW demonstrate speaking and listening vocabulary within their groups and
their open discussion during the DO NOW.
