Freaghillaun East
This table is not a definitive list of plant species present on Freaghillaun East and should be
added to in the future to compile a more complete inventory of plants present.
The floristic
table is also not necessarily an accurate representation of where plants are located. For
example, tormentil, Potentilla erecta, may be present at the east end but was not recorded at
the time due to the process of plant identification on the day.
General ongoing observation confirms that the east and west sections have subtly different
vegetation with more grasses growing towards the west end where there is less shelter from saltladen winds. Grasses were also more abundant in the narrow area which was dug for lazy bed
potato ridges in the 19th century. Lichen, Antheroceros laevis, was more common on the upper
eastern drumlin area. The cliff slope perimeter has markedly different vegetation, lacking any H.
non-scripta, and resembles semi-natural grassland, possibly in the BEC classification of 3f
Festuca rubra Lotus corniculatus grassland.
