In class, we spend time watching the movie A Beautiful
Mind, which is based on the life John Nash. Nash was a gifted
mathematician who suffered from a severe mental illness.
Based on what you heard and observed in the movie, answer
the following questions carefully and completely. You should make
reference to the film itself, as well as class lectures and discussions.
This assessment would be typed, printed, and submitted the day it is
due, and will count as a quiz grade. Be sure to answer in complete

Briefly explain his theory.
7. How did doctors attempt to treat Nashs condition? What kind of doctors treated
Nash? Were the doctors effective? How did Nash handle the medications and
treatments the doctors prescribed?
8. In detail discuss the elements of Nashs life that were created by his disorder.
Name at least three characters that existed exclusively in Nashs head. Though
they were not real, what role did these characters have in Nashs life? How does
he finally realize that the characters are not real?
9. Later in Nashs life, his disorder transitions, and he becomes more paranoid.
Explain this paranoia. What new symptoms does he suffer from? Who does Nash
think is trying to get him? Who is actually trying to get him? Are his paranoid
feelings true or false?
10. When does John Nash receive the Nobel Prize? How old is he when he receives
the Award? Who attends the ceremony (real and fake)?
