Professional Development Plan

Goal Statement: To develop my clinical practice skills, leadership skills, and education to be an expert medical-surgical nurse specializing in cardiac care or a
pediatric nurse that is confident and skilled to be a competitive candidate for advancement in my unit.

Obtain employment as an RN as
part of a new RN graduate
program in medical-surgical
cardiac nursing or pediatric
nursing

Select a role model or mentor in


the same clinical role that I am
employed, in a position that I want
to achieve (acute care nurse
practioner), and observe one who
has excellent leadership and
interpersonal skills.

Apply for jobs at the above


hospitals to get into the system.
Be willing to accept on-call CNA
jobs if it is the employer I want to
work for in the future
Apply to clinics and other
hospitals that accept ADN RNs
to practice and develop my skills
as an RN, while I work on
getting hired as an RN focused
on cardiac care or pediatrics
Obtain my ACLS certification
Obtain my PALS certification
Get involved in committees
where I will meet and interact
with people who will be doing
the interviewing, hiring, or be my
supervisor in my intended
position as RN.

nursing organizations, such as
Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses,
and Hawaii Association of Professional
Nurses
Dedicate my time to completing and
excelling in my RN to BSN classes.
Take 15 credits per semester to finish
on time.
Understand and fulfill the admission
requirements for each graduate
program.
Apply to the various graduate
programs, and chose which program I
will enroll.

I am a dedicated student that is intent


on getting my graduate degree and
becoming an advanced practice nurse.
