A S S E S S M E N T , PLANNING AND INSTRUCTION
Essa has independently planned and taught Grade 6 Language (Persuasive/Creative Writing) Science (Understanding
Matter and Energy; Electricity and Electrical Devices) during her teaching practicum. Together, we discussed and
collaborated on what skills needs to be covered and Essa then independently consulted the Ministry Documents to
create lesson plans with short and long term goals. Ms. Chang has learned to utilize a variety of instructional
strategies and skills with success. Essa is learning to modify lessons according to varying needs of the students. In
both units she taught, Essa employed many activities that were interactive and hands on. Ms. Chang has also utilized
the SMART board enhance her science and Language lessons. Essa was open to suggestions and feedback in her
teaching and she applied this feedback in her future lessons. Ms Chang kept track of students' work and understood
what they were capable of.
C L A S S R O O M MANAGEMENT
Essa has been well prepared and organized for her lessons. She has established a good rapport with students and
has experimented with a variety of classroom management skills. In large and small group activities, she has learned
to group the students accordingly to avoid potential conflicts. Essa has also learned to solve classroom management
issues by responding to student triggers (transition times between classes) and by the end of her teaching block
communicated to the students with clear expectations for each activity. Ms Chang always used a clear and consistent
voice when speaking to students as a whole and individually.
UNDERSTANDING C U R R I C U L U M AND T H E L E A R N E R
Essa has a good knowledge of the curriculum that is expected in the grade 6 level. She consulted with me in everyday
areas: type of lesson, classroom management, and potential academic and social issues with students. Ms Chang
has made efforts to get to know all students in our class. Essa values and respects all the individual differences
amongst the students. She is building on various strategies when dealing with students who have academic and
social/behavioural difficulties.
DIVERSITY AND EQUITY
Ms.Chang promotes a safe environment for all students. Throughout her stay with us, she has motivated and provided
support for all students in our class. She utilized instructional skills and strategies that are inclusive and equitable;
showing respect for every person's academic ability, culture, gender and race.

PROFESSIONALISM
Essa has displayed flexibility and adaptability in a class with children of varying abilities. She has a calm manner in the
way she deals with the students. Essa is a reflective practitioner and continuously self evaluates her teaching. Ms.
Chang has developed a great respect and appreciation for the staff and fellow student teachers. She has
demonstrated collegial qualities that will make her an asset to the teaching profession.

INVOLVEMENT IN SCHOOL / COMMUNITY LIFE


Essa has participated in all duties associated with teaching: recess duties and staff meetings. During our class
absence to Mono Cliffs Outdoor Education Centre, Essa worked with Ms Glynn's Grade 1 class and Mrs. Herbert's

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
It has been my pleasure to have had Ms. Chang in my class this term. Essa is a motivated individual who is extremely
organized in everything she does. She is a hard worker and has a keen desire and commitment to teaching. Essa
always takes comments from a previous lesson and builds on it for the next lesson she teaches. Students in my class
with truly miss her. I wish Essa luck in her future teaching endeavours. It was a pleasure hosting Essa in my
classroom this term.
