Habitat
Preparation:
You will need to have pictures of animals that live in each of the habitats that you are
defining.
1:00-1:20
Introduction:
I will begin this lesson by
calling attention to the front of
the classroom (the
whiteboard) and explaining
what the word habitat means.
I will then define six different
types of habitats (forest,
wetland, desert, plain, and
tundra.)
Management:
I will manage the class by
leading the discussion
amongst students and by
calling upon random students
to ensure that they remained
focused on the activity at
hand.
1:20-1:30
1:30-1:35
1:35-1:40
Adaptations:
You could provide a translation for the habitats and animals that you use in the lesson. that
might help elucidate it for ELL students.
With gifted students, you could group them together and provide them with more difficult
animals to place in habitats.
Integration:
This lesson could be integrated with visual art fairly easy ( you could have students
illustrate each individual habitat.)
Furthermore, a classroom that is tech-focused could do interesting things with this lesson.
You could show them videos the different habitats show students get a clearer sense of the
differences between the habitats.
