Timeline

1450- Incas from Peru conquer northern Chile- This was a tuning point
for Chiles history because it was a civil war that determined the territory of
Chile, and therefore the culture that surrounded the country.
1818-Chile wins its independence from Spain- This was a huge turning
point in Chile hisory because it was the actual war that gave Chile its
country. Without this event the country would not have even existed and
the history would cease to exist.
1879-Chile goes to war against Peru and Bolivia- This war could have
been a huge turning point in Chiles history because it would have lost its
terriroy and the history would have ended there.
1989-Patricio Alywin is elected president- He made a huge impact on
Chiles history by addressing the political crisis and helped reestablish the
rule of law. Over his presidency he reduced poverty and inequality greatly.
He focused on the social and economic polices in place and set goals to
help achieve a better quality of life.
2006- Michele Bachelet becomes Chiles first woman President- This
is significant to Chiles history because it showed the gender equality
moment that has been increasing in Chile. As a leader she impacted
Chile by, opening up many subway stations to enable the public to
travel to jobs, and providing social services to children 0-6.
2008- The Chaiten volcano erupts. The volcano had not erupted in
9,000 years- This eruption had a significant impact on the people of Chile
because it caused 3,000 people to be evacuated and caused
concerns for further eruptions. It also marked the first time in 9,000
years since its last eruption, dubbing it active.
2010- An earthquake with an 8.8 magnitude hits central Chile. It is
the biggest earthquake in 50 years, and causes widespread damageThis earthquake was a historical marker because it caused distress
and sadness throughout the country. There were buildings collapsing,
fires, and power outages that caused great damage to the countries
capital.

2010- Thirty-three miners, trapped underground for 69 days,


are brought to safety. The world watches the televised rescueThis was a huge event that the entire world was invested in.
The miners were trapped for a long amount of time, but alive,
which pulled on many peoples heartstrings. This was a huge
historical feat gave hope to the people of Chile and around the
world.

Chiles history is deep and interesting. Reading about all of the


wars that took place that determined the history of Chile, its mindblowing to see the events that had to occur in order for Chile to be a
successful country. The turning points that took place over the history
of Chile determined what the outcome and the culture of the territory
would be. Had the events turned out differently Chile, as a country may
not exist at all; If it did the culture and government would be
significantly different. The events that shaped Chile were both natural
and unnatural, but both had great impacts on the country.
