Outcomes were realistic and able to be assessed and evident in the lesson.
Lesson, skills and outcomes were successfully linked to standards.
Tiffany linked what students would be doing during this lesson to previous work. Tiffany
displayed two maps of the West Region of the USA on the SmartBoard, a map of roadways
and a map showing capitals of states in that region. Tiffany reviewed the information that
the maps displayed and what that information means through the map features such as
the legend.
Students were initially divided into two groups and asked to go to either the front or the
back of the classroom. On the floor there were sets of 12 question cards that students
would answer on a recording sheet. Students moved from question to question using the
same maps displayed on the SmartBoard but now available to them in copies of their
Social Studies book that accompanied each question card. Early finishers were asked to
use the same maps at another table to create their own questions about the West Region.
Students were brought back together to discuss their findings as they used the maps to
discover things about this region of the US. Tiffany also had another activity planned for
this lesson; however, because of PSSA influence on schedule, she and the students were
unable to work on this piece. Her intention is to have students do so during the next
social studies time.
The teacher was able to observe and help students as they worked.
All materials were prepared ahead and available at the beginning of the lesson.
The SmartBoard was utilized during this lesson.

Planning and Preparation: Plans were prepared ahead and available to the supervisor. Plans
were
thorough and well thought out.
Classroom Environment: Students were actively engaged throughout the lesson. Students
listened well
and followed directions. Student interest was high and they seemed to enjoy the
discovery
through using the maps.
Instructional Delivery:
Provided students with good role model for behavior, speech and manners
Students were given positive reinforcement throughout the lesson.
Lesson flowed well and students were actively engaged, throughout.
Tiffanys management of her group was excellent.

Professionalism: Tiffany was professional in dress, behavior and attitude. Students

demonstrated
they consider her a part of the teaching team in their classroom.

What I Liked:
You were well prepared.
You were relaxed and confident in front of your group.
You successfully adapted your lesson to my observation schedule and PSSA testing.
You had students using maps to gain information.
You provided an additional activity for those who finished early that supported your original

plan for your lesson.

You monitored and conferenced with students as they worked answering the questions
about the West Region using map skills. Most kids today, some adults as well, do not know
how to read a map and get information from that use. This is a good skill to have them
practice.
You had students use the Turn and Talk strategy to share ideas after answering the
questions based on the maps of the West.
Students were able to help one another and discuss the process as they worked.
You gave a warning before stopping
You highlighted student successes
The questions you posed really had students use the maps in a variety of ways to find
specific information or to calculate an answer after using the map in a certain way.
You are consistently able to adapt lessons to fit learner needs, skills, interest and
engagement.

Some Suggestions Pertaining to This Lesson:

This lesson was executed very well and students demonstrated a high level of interest
and focus.
