CAREER PATHWAY ASSESSMENT PAPER

FOLLOW-UP
Educational Goals
My educational goals have been met through my ODU RN to BSN curriculum.
My general knowledge improved because I needed to educate myself on various
interwoven disease processes so that I would notice any changes in patients to be
proactive with patient care. I also needed to be able to properly educate the clients on
many medications, procedures and care. I was concurrently enrolled in the RN program
at TNCC, which provided me with a basic background of nursing knowledge, but ODU
provided me knowledge of leadership skills, nursing theory and cultural skills that will
further guide my nursing career.
My core values involve honesty, fairness and responsibility, and these values have
remain unchanged throughout the program. I expect myself to consistently be truthful in
my interactions with others and certainly with patients. In my career I have become
keenly aware of the importance of truth and veracity in dealing with patients. When
patients lives are at stake, it serves no purpose to hide relevant information about any
wrong-doing to try to shift blame. This ties in with responsibility. As a nurse, you must
be accountable for your actions and use good judgment in all aspects of your work life.
And lastly, I hope to treat everyone fairly. I try to treat people equally and try to
make decisions without favoritism or prejudice. A necessary part of treating patients
holistically and fairly requires cultural competence. ODU RN to BSN met my goal and
instilled in me an awareness of my own prejudices and educated me how to deliver
culturally sensitive care. ODU RN to BSN gave me tools and resources to provide the
appropriate care.
My plans or goals for further education include specializing in critical care
medicine/emergency medicine and obtain my CCRN. I also plan to pursue a Masters
degree through ODU. Obtaining my CCRN will provide me and fill any gap in education
I have not obtained through the RN to BSN program.
