What is the interest of Russia in ASEAN?

Russia was invited to join the East Asia Summit (EAS) and they focused on connectivity with
ASEAN and East Asia. Russia is focussing on ASEAN due to its domestic priorities and
challenges.
At the first ASEAN-RUSSIA youth summit held on 2013, which was organized by the
Moscow State Institution of International Relations (MGIMO university) shows remarks
about Russia that they have a relations with ASEAN in terms of economic, social and security
cooperation. Russia will soon discuss about the free trade between ASEAN and Russia. They
are looking for greater unity and other purpose from ASEAN. They are likely to give more
priority to ASEAN because of their integrity is threatened by competing maritime claims in
the South China Sea.
Russias future of development depends on the economic, social and technological
development. They need the support from the ASEAN countries to build backup strong than
enough. Theyve ensured the security challenges they might face earlier. Russia cannot use
military forces to address security challenges in Asia Pacific. They need to adapt new system
of empowerment because of growing authority in this area from India and China.

What is the interest of Pakistan in ASEAN?

Pakistan has shown a great interest in foreign relation with ASEAN. Government of Pakistan
expressed strong desire to strengthen cooperation with ASEAN and work under the
framework of ASEAN-Pakistan sectorial dialogue relations. They want to explore more
practical cooperative activities that could be undertaken between two sides in area of mutual
interest.
Pakistan is facing some trouble with keeping pace with the world for political instability
within and outside the region. Pakistan wants to cope with the rapid economic growth. They
have a location where they can provide shortest transit land and sea routes. They can play a
significant role in the development of ASEAN.
Pakistan attaches to its relationship with ASEAN and expressed Pakistans interest to further
elevate its dialogue and cooperation with ASEAN to promote peace. They want to maintain

political stability and keep peace within their country. They also reiterated their commitment
to support ASEAN community building.
